Hello,

So I was brushing my Abyssinian and I noticed she wasn't happy about it at all. I found this little clump of hair in the brush and this looks to me like a fungal infection but I'm not too sure.

I've added some pictures to show(they're not very good sorry!), it also looks like some strands of fur look shorter which I know happens with mites.

Can anyone tell me what they think this could be and what I should do? Both pigs seem a bit itchy and dandruffy but acting normal otherwise, eating/drinking and running around.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi, I would take to vets to get a property diagnosis ASAP and then It can be treated properly.
If it is mites, they can cause a lot of discomfort.

You may want to see a vet this week during regular opening hours for a diagnosis. Fungal, mange mites or dry skin can look very similar in the very early stages, but things usually become clearer after a few days.

I would recommend to use good hygiene and disposable gloves when handling your suspect.

Yeah that's what I'm planning to do :) luckily they don't seem to be in any pain so hopefully it's not mites.

Thank you for your reply.

Yes I think a vet trip is the best option to get an understanding, hopefully it doesn't get any worse until then :) I will be cautious with that!

If it is getting worse, then at least it will be clearer what you are dealing with and easier to diagnose for your vet, too. Whatever it is, you are still very much at the very early stages and will get on top of it easily with the correct treatment. It is never going to get further than nuisance level for your piggies! ;)
