My 9 month old male piggy is quite poorly, queaking loud when weeing. I took him to the vets and over the past three weeks has had injections and pain killers and oral antibiotics. He is loosing weight and is looking very very sad. Vet is going to give him a scan tomorrow, and depending on what he finds might have to operate. Poss stones or cyst. Has any one else had their piggy operated on for this and is recovery good. I need to decide what to do quited quickly

There are quite a few members on here whose piggies have had Bladder stone operation's - if that is what it is found to be. Bumping this up for you.

Hope you get some answers from the scan tomorrow and lots of healing vibes for your piggie x

Hi! Bladder stones are not all that rare. It depends on where the stone is located, but the majority of operations go well.
Here is more about bladder stones: http://www.guinealynx.info/stones.html

Here are tips for opst op care: http://www.guinealynx.info/postop.html
It is vital that you weigh daily and if necessary hand feed, little but often and if necessary round the clock; your care can make all the difference! http://www.guinealynx.info/handfeeding.html

Best of luck! One of my earlier piggies has survived two bladder stone ops, a year apart.

Georgie has an ultra sound today and vet said has has cystitis. He has given him Septrin and some vetergesic and back to see vet on Friday. I have been reading other posts and other give cranberry juice and barley water. How long to you boil the pearly barley for and do you just give the strained liquid. Any help and advice apreciated

Hi you boil the Barley for 35 - 45 minutes, then strain off the liquid and syringe to piggy.

My Patrick had two stones removed, he recovered well. If your little one is losing weight I would top him up with syringe feeds, also weigh him daily.

My Patrick cried, lost weight and urinated blood for just short of 11 months before we discovered his stones. Up till then we managed his pain and Xrayed every 4 weeks, I found the only medicine that touched Patrick's pain was Trama-dol, I gave 5mg's twice daily it was indeed a life saver for Patrick.

I hope your little one gets well soon. X

Great that it wasn't a bladder stone!

I hope that Georgie will recover well. Septrin is the best antibiotic for it.
