came back home from uni this evening, and like always inspected pigs teeth, fur and feet. only tonight, i found her two hind limb foot pads very red, and what looks like blisters on both feet. i suspect it is an infection, but could anyone advise on what the beginning of pododermatitis looks like? ive only seen sever infections.
some general info: kept on hay, likes jumping on her wooden house ( possibly roughness causing inflamation?) shes 1 1/2yrs, lives on her own, rather lazy - will pee where shes sleeping/lying, totally cleaned out once a week, possibly might be over weight :/ last time i weighed her she was 1000g.

A big subject, bumblefoot. There are various threads on this section devoted to the topic. Suggest you have a quick/long look, or even on Google. Initially it will save a lot of duplicate typing! The comments I would make is that the condition is very difficult to treat and usually affects the front feet more than the back feet.

Ah these are on the back feet. on second thoughts after looking in books and internet pics, looks nothing like bumblefoot! not swollen at all. i'll post a pic, see what people think.

ok here are what her feet look like. any advice on what to do? she had a bath yesterday, and her feet arent looking as bad as the pictures today. ive put a towel instead of hay as bedding and covered all the wooden sitting platforms in tea towels/fleece. hopefully working.

With the red foot: an older pig of mine had that, it was minor urine scald caused from him lying on a harsh bedding (pine) where he'd peed. It was cleared up using a cream they gave me - but I was told sudo cream for babies with nappy rash would work just as well.

The singular picture looks a bit worse than the other foot which is just red - am I right that I can see a scab on that foot? You may want to turn the treatment of this foot up a notch into giving him a foot bath with TCP/iodine wash - salt may work just as well - anything to fight off potential infection.

Keep their bedding clean and dry. You may benefit from switching to fleece until both feet clear up - the fleece will be gentle on their feet (if it wicks properly) and will keep moisture off of its surface by displacing it to a layer of towels below.

If it were bumblefoot I'd say it was minor - most bad cases of bumblefoot I've seen have involved a lot of scab, blood and HUGE super BBQ swollen feet to varying degrees.

Rocky had this and we treated it with salt water. They do look very sore.

Also: 1000g isn't overweight - she's fine.

You may want to remove the hay for a short while, and spot-clean daily - especially where she sits and is lazy if you can't switch her to another absorbent bedding

caught her yesterday looking a bit plump. i keep telling her shes just big boned, but I'm starting not to believe it myself anymore! she has a HUGE double chin and plump bits behind her front legs.

ah yes, thats quite big too.

well i have emailed gorgeous guineas with the two pictures and asked for their advice to see if either of their foot creams would be suitable. fingers crossed i hear back!
i have kindly donated my purple fleece from my bed to the guinea pig. i hope she appreciates it and realizes how cold i shall be tonight! lol
shes too spoilt i think.

I have a bambi fleece I was going to donate to my pigs...

then I remembered that they have all of my other fleeces plus a few towels...
then I remembered the good times the bambi fleece and I have had in the past...
then I remembered how traumatic it was when the rabbits got the bambi fleece...
and I kept it.

:)
