Hello, hello!

How is everyone doing.

My rebel cute boar Tribble has something on his left front paw. I am not certain, but I think it might be spurs, is it dangerous? I clean his habitat rigorously frequently. C:

He is being held with grace, do not worry!

It does look to be a foot spur.
They are harmless and best left alone unless they are causing issues such as getting caught in bedding. If they are getting caught and causing issues then see a vet for their removal and don’t try to tackle it yourself (they can bleed a lot if not done properly)

Glad to know that it isn't dangerous, thank you. :)

I shall do a weekly checkup just in case.

I had a pig who had one of these on her from foot. To stop it catching and tearing off, when it got really long (like sticking off the side of her foot) I would very carefully trim it back with human nail clippers (they had the right shaped edge). Is this ok to do? I would never take it too close to the foot, just shorten it enough that it wasn’t going to catch.

I am not confident enough to trim it by myself! If it grows in size, then I shall take him to a vet.😅
That'sabsolutely the right thing. If you're not 100% comfortable doing something then ask your vet. I was just wondering if there were any issues with trimming it myself that I was unaware of.

Please do not trim it yourself.
Spurs are best left alone unless they are catching. If they are catching, then see a vet for trimming. Home trimming poses a real risk and we would never recommend attempts yourself. One wrong move or jump from piggy and the pain that would be caused by cutting too close to or into the skin would be unbearable for your piggy. It would cause a lot of bleeding and would render your piggy unwilling and unable to weight bear and walk.

Thank you guys! I know what to do if Tribble has issues with his spurs.

Hmm, I love the name too! He got that name because he rumbles so now and then, haha.

He is so cute!

Thank you for explaining it. I never had an issue as my pig was trained from a young age to have her nails trimmed so would sit still but I agree that it would definitely be a bad idea for a new owner with a wriggly pig to attempt!

My two piggies are well-behaved whilst I do their nails, but since I have little experience with spurs, I shall leave it to experts. For now, he is fine. 🙂
