Ok, I've just seen Indy (my possibly diabetic pig) struggling to go to the toilet. I noticed he had his penis out so I went to check him and the tip looks quite red. I've read that UTI's go hand in hand with diabetes. Does this sound like it could be the problem? If so does it require an urgent vet trip?

Thanks

I would check for very stale smelling or bloody pees and an increased urge to pee (often accompanied by increased thirst).

Not every UTI pee necessarily contains blood, especially in the early stages. If needed, take a urine sample by letting your boy make several pees on a clear plastic surface, suck them up with a syringe and store them in a sealable freezer bag in your fridge until you can take it to the vets.

The penis tip can have quite a few different colours - even bright purple. I have never heard of a connection with UTI.

Ok. Thank you Wiebke. I was going to take a urine sample to test for diabetes anyway as he does drink a lot and was losing a lot of weight. He seems stable now but I wanted to get him checked just in case. I'll keep a close eye on him tonight and see what he's like in the morning :).
