It will come!
I'm a bit concerned that she may be pregnant but in the early stages (like 4 weeks or so) but I don't know and I'm hoping she isn't. Thankfully at the pet store they had been housed in sheltered outdoor accommodation and then moved into a warmer room once they were found out to be pregnant so she is accustomed to the cold.

I thought you said she had completed pregnancy watch? How long was she inside for? Its very cold outside at the moment it could be a big shock for her system to go outside if she has been in the warm for some time.

A couple of females gave birth after they found a male that was a supposed female in with them and they do not believe any more are pregnant as the others gave birth at least 3-4 weeks ago. The room they were kept in had a door open all day and wasn't heated at night however before that they were in a hutch outside in a sheltered area (they house their rabbits and pigs outside).

It all depends when the male was removed, the only way you can be sure she is not pregnant is to wait 10 weeks from her last contact with a boar. The fact that the others gave birth 3 to 4 weeks earlier is no guarantee that your piggy is not pregnant l am afraid. Try and find out when they took the boar out ?

I thought that would be the case. I am prepared space wise and financially if she is pregnant to support any pups born and I will ask them when I go back to pick up a bale if hay either tomorrow or later this week.

Check on the pregnancy threads about diet etc. Let me know what they say. Do you know how old she is?

I have read through all the pregnancy threads about diet however I will reread them tomorrow. I'm guessing she is no older than about 5-6 months seeing as some of her sisters gave birth a few weeks ago.

Wow things have moved on at a cracking speed since I last saw this thread @orangeinepig
You have a new to you hamster AND guineapig.
I hope your hamster has settled in OK.
And I hope your guinea pig is not pregnant, but the situation she was in does mean there's a chance she may be.
But you will get great advice and support from members on this forum.

Yeah it has moved pretty quickly. My dwarf hamster is settled in and loves eating out of my hands and I also hope my new guinea pig is not pregnant as although babies are cute I would rather her not have to deal with the process which could go extremely wrong. Since losing 5 rodents in three months I have decided I am going to keep to 1 hamster and my pigs rather than have multiple solitary animals and guinea pigs as well.

@pig in the city is it okay if i order alfalfa hay for the new pig whilst she is being housed with a 2 year old sow?
Its good to feed a small amount of alfalfa hay to your young piggy once a day, but better that the 2 year old doesn't have it. I would feed it to your young pig when you are giving her lap time, they usually love it!

Okay, is it okay to hold her as I have to get a pretty strong grasp onto her as she is a little wrigglebum who doesn't stay still and I wouldn't want to cause any possible babies harm.

I have a guinea pig who doesn't liked being picked up. So I use a cardboard tube which I got from Pets at home. He now likes to go in there when I can pick the tube up. I put one end against me and cover the other end with my hand whilst moving the guinea pig. You could put some veg in initially to tempt your new guinea pig in. They get used to being moved this way very quickly.
I have found a thread started by @sport_billy called How to pick up and weigh your guinea pig. Sorry I cannot cut and paste it (poor IT skills). But its under a sticky thread called New and Wannabe Guinea Pig owners corner. Theres a good video in sportbilly's thread..

Try putting her in a cosy or snugglesack to pick her up and hold her, she should hop into the sack and then you can safely pick her up and hold her

@pig in the city , @VickiA @worried val of york I managed to weigh her by eventually catching her in their cardboard tube and she weighs 601 grams. I tried to compare how her stomach felt with Popcorn's and I am a bit uncertain as to if it feels harder or not (if that makes sense and I didn't squeeze her to feel either). Just going to add popcorn is 1048 grams for a sort of comparison and new pig looks maybe 1/2 - 2/3 of Popcorn's size at most (lengthwise).

weigh her every week and let us know what the weight is, it should give an idea if she is pregnant or not

Isn't roughly a gain of 60 or so grams something to look out for if she is pregnant?
Yes, although she may put on weight simply because she is growing and eating a better diet with you. Significant weight gain only tends to occur in the later stages of pregnancy, don't be tempted to overfeed her, just a normal varied hay based diet

Okay, I will make sure not too overfeed however is giving a bit of extra okay seeing as it is still coldish at night?

Just give your usual amount of food, if you are worried about the cold put plenty of hay in, cosies and snugglesafe heat pads, consider covering the hutch with a blanket but make sure there is adequate ventilation

Okay I will follow that advice. I thought I would be prepared if I ever got in the situation of having a possible pregnant pig, I say otherwise now.

I have a couple of spare cosies if you need them @orangeinepig
If you are interested I could try and photograph them and put the photos on this thread.
You could ask your parents to pick them up if they come through to York.
Don't worry if you don't want them.
thank you for the offer, I will talk to my parents and see if they are able to travel to York at some point to pick them up if that's okay with you.

@worried val of york I would love those and I think the pigs would too. I will update you with more information in the next couple of days. I just thought I would add that the 6ft hutches you gave me in November 2015 are amazing and the pigs really like all the space! One last thing @pigs in the city New pig is 613 grams as of today (I prefer to weigh my pigs on Saturdays) which is a 12 gram increase since Wednesday but then popcorn has gone from 1048 grams to 1090 grams since Wednesday (all be it she is a little fatty, well not that little but still).

That sounds a healthy weight gain, keep us updated

I went to the pet store today to get a bale of hay and they are pretty certain that she shouldn't be pregnant but they couldn't give me a date that they separated the male so that's annoying. If she is pregnant will she gain normal weight until she starts showing she is pregnant ie pear shaped and then begin to gain more weight or will it be more gradual than that?
