Possibly Hay Poke? Or Worse?

Today I woke up to my little pig named Brownie and noticed that his eye was watery. I asked my mom and she said to take a warm soft towel and gently wipe the eye. After like 2 more hours, it got cloudy and white. I think its possible it could be hay poke, but now he has white, cloudy substances coming from his eye. I’ve been watching him and he hasn’t cleaned himself to make the cleaning fluid take place in his eye. It is only 1 eye that this is happening in. No other symptoms, eatting and drinking is just fine. He does act like it hurts, because if I touch it at all, he grunts and runs away like it hurt. The photos are above. Sorry they aren’t good photos. He moves a lot! Please help me on this because I don’t know whether to take him to the vet or not. I’m worried sick and I’m hoping he's okay!

You need to take your piggie to the vet. It is probably hay poke. The vet will put some coloured eye drops in it which will show up any ulcers developing and then give you antibiotic eyedrops. Don't wait around with eye problems in piggies they can get very bad very quickly and may end up losing the eye which means an operation for eye removal. My piggies get hay poke every so often and the antibiotic eyedrops clear it up in a week. That is one sore eye that Brownie has poor boy.
 
Hi, vet visit asap. I'll only get more expensive the longer you wait. It's painful condition. Any vet will do, don't worry about going to piggie specialist. They'll check for eye ulcers and give you eye drops and will need recheck in a week.
One of my boys had this few months back, luckily caught it on time so didn't need extensive treatment. Few days on eye drops and he was back to normal.

Don’t panic.
Go to the vets and if it is hay poke and caught quickly eye drops will soon clear it.
There are many of us here who have been in that position.

Although, today is a sunday and all the vets we have are closed. I checked on Brownie today and looks like his eye is getting better. It is a lot more open now and he seems more lively. The 1st photo is his left (good) eye and the 2nd and 3rd photos is his right (bad) eye and the last photo is his right eye. I checked to see if there are any hay pieces still in his eye and I didnt see any. Do I still need to take him to a vet? I'm worried because Ive never taken him to a vet before and my mother doesnt want to spend a lot of money for just eye drops.
 
Oh and yes I know. I need to clip his nails. Doing it tomorrow! I'm very busy today and it takes forever for my piggie to sit still to get his nails done!
 
Yes I would still take him to the vet. Velvet's eye appeared to be getting better like that but she had a seed head starting to embed in her eyelid that the vet got out with a very steady hand and small pair of forceps. You cannot leave eyes. If not treated it may need to be removed which means an operation. My vet's charge £34 for a consultation + any meds. Usual cost is £55 for the consultation + eye drops at my vets. Many people on here have a vet fund (me included) where they save a bit every month into a bank account that can be used especially for vet treatment. This then means you can afford to pay for your pet to see the vet,

Instead of a separate bank account, I have a piggy bank (great name) on my dressing table & every month I put an amount into it. I make sure I don’t dig into it for anything other than vet costs if needed. It really helps x
 
Okay guys thanks so much! My mother and I decided to make an appointment tomorrow to see the vet. Ill update soon after the appointment!
 
B1AEBDA8-54E5-4E45-96E4-2D05371B13F6.webp Hey guys! Took Brownie to the vet today and the veterinarian said that he looks just fine! Most likely it was hay poke she said. She checked for any ulsers/cuts/scratches and didnt find any! She gave me prescribed eye drops for him for 1 week to use daily and should get better! He already looks a lot better today than the other day. She did say that he is kinda on the chunky side! Haha! Dont worry I'm getting him on a diet pronto! :) Thanks guys so much for your help! ^.^
 
I am so pleased Brownie is healing okay. My peanut had a hay poke on Sunday, my vets have a clinic 7 days a week so we managed to get him seen. His eye was very sore and had an ulcer forming, luckily it's healing nicely with the eye drops. Peanut is the agouti in my avatar picture he looks very much like Brownie with out the crest!
