My guinea pig Chester had to have five bladder stones removed on Friday, almost a week ago now and he’s been doing well up until about a day ago when he started squealing when he is urinating again. When he came out of surgery he wasn’t squealing at all for the first few days and now he’s started again. He is still on his antibiotics and metacam but he only has a few days left of them. He also seems to be hiding away more. Is this normal recovery or something I should be worried about?

I would be contacting the vet as matter of urgency, especially after such a difficult op. All the best ❤️

Does he have a post opp appointment booked? I would have him seen again tomorrow by the vet, as he shouldn't be squealing. Is he on the dog or cat metacam and what is the dose? Your vet may need to increase the dose and extend the course. Is he eating as normal and maintaining his weight?

He had his post op appointment on Tuesday and the vet said everything was all fine and he looked to be doing well but he has started squealing since then. I ran out of the metacam so he’s now been put onto loxicom (dog) 0.3 dose of that twice a day along with his baytril which is 0.4 dose twice a day. Yeah he’s still eating, he lost quite a bit of weight pre op but I don’t think he’s put any of it back on yet.

Loxicom and metacam are the same drug and that sounds like a sensible dose (although some vets prescribe higher) so if he was mine I would be concerned by the squealing and get him vet checked again.
