Hi all,
My Guinea pig drucilla has had a CT scan on Tuesday (2 days ago). She started eating straight after the CT scan although she did still seem quite out of it. She has since stopped eating on her own for the most part ( she will nibble at leafy veg, a bit of cucumber and a small amount of hay but not enough to sustain her. I have started supplementing with critical care every 2 hours and she is still pooping and peeing.

The CT scan was to assess an abscess on her lympthnode that she has had for 6 months, she is not currently on any medication as the antibiotics didn’t shrink the lump and made her ill. Before the CT scan, she was active and popcorning with no sign of illness aside from her absess lump.

Dental issues have been ruled out and since she was fine before the CT scan, I am guessing it’s the anesthetic used had thrown her off.

If she is still pooping and I am feeding her critical care + probiotic then does she need to return to the vet as I guess she isn’t in full gut stasis? Obviously if I am totally wrong then I am more than happy to get her to the vets.

Has anyone experienced this before and is there a chance that she has just got an upset stomach from the anaesthetic?

Thanks :)

I’m sorry to hear this

I would get her to the vet, or at least call them and get their advice.
You would be expecting day on day improvement post-anaesthetic, not a reduction in appetite.

While you are syringe feeding she will be pooping but her lack of appetite and independent eating would be cause for concern and certainly worth getting vet advice on

I hope she is ok
