I have had my piggy Scampy neutred today with the plan of getting him a girl friend, the vet was fab and gave me lots of advice, Scampys picking at his food-he's not ate lots.

I would appreciate any post-operative care advice, also how long after the op do we need to wait to get a girlfriend
 
I was informed 4 weeks by my vet after Rebel was done, I waited 5 weeks now he's living happily with the girls.
 
After four weeks you are about as safe as with human protection, but if you want 100% safety, you need to wait the full 6 weeks.

Remember my little surprise baby from last autumn, whose dad turned out to be a supposedly safe over 5 weeks post op boar?


Please see the vet asap if you notice any swelling, loss of appetite/weight in the weeks after the operation. Weigh very regularly.
 
Hopefully, he's got metacam - painkiller and anti inflammatory - for a few days. He may also be on antibiotics, if he is, keep an eye on his gut movements, and make sure he continues to poop. If not, take him back to the vet asap. Also, keep a check on the wound - any swelling, bleeding or discharge - take him back to the vet asap. He should have a post op check after seven days, but if worried, take him back sooner.
 
Rebel flew through his op with no complications whatsoever. ;)
 
I've had two very different experiences. I must say what I have found is supreme science or critical care is amazing at perking them up and getting them back into their normal eating habits. With Buddy the GA seems to have upset his tummy a little and he ended up having probiotics and antacids for it but with Peter I didn't have any of those problems. I recommend the SS or CC route as both of mine seemed unsure of their veggies at first (but then I wouldn't trust me when the last thing you remember is a lovely morning cuddle and then wake up with no balls)
