Hiya, little Daisy has survived her spay and got all clear. Just keeping vet up you date on weight gain for next 2 weeks. She is eating well but what is the best food for fattening up? She is 800g and used to be 1,000g. Aged approx 3.. (rescued so only approx}

Baby corn is higher calorie. Offer unlimited pellets also.

Sending lots of love x x

I saw advice on here to feed porridge oats as they are high in calorie. I soak them in water and they love it, even when they have little appetite for anything else. It certainly helps put weight on. It's not fibrous though so can only be a supplementary food.

I'm not sure everybody here or all vets would agree with this approach, but it's worked for me for short periods when needed

I have this with Maud too after her spay and bladder issues. She is 860g at the moment and though she has not lost any more, she is not gaining either and she looks skinny. She has been through a lot though (14 babies before she was 1) and I think that is a factor. We have started giving top up syringe feeds plus she has baby corn when she will eat it. She is fussy though, chops and changes what veg she will eat each day.

Thanks. I bought a couple of fresh corn cobs for her to chomp last night and today, and some baby corn for extra snacks tomorrow onwards.... See how that goes.

Daisy hasn't put on this week either. She did only have her spay one week ago and took about 24-36 hours to get eating hay & pellets again voluntarily. Would eat little bits of veg enthusiastically at first then get fed up after a few mouthfuls and I would have to give a different veg to tempt her, and syringe pellets which she was happy to eat in that way but not make the effort to chew dry. She feels so light and bony

I remember many years ago giving one of my pigs that had scurvy Vitamin B (along with Vit C). I was told it is something they absorb from reingesting their poop and as he wasn't eating, he wasn't doing that. It can be a bit of a pick me up for them.

I gave 25mg of a tablet dissolved in water.

It was many years ago though so you may want to discuss it with a vet before trying it.

How long post spay is Maude? Has she put weight on yet? Daisy is still only 800g but eating normally. She was a rescue so who knows what she endured in the past. Vet said just monitor her weight . Problem is none of ours eat as many pellets in summer as in winter. She is eager for food and not fussy. She just seems so light weight compared to the others.

I think about 6 weeks but I need to check the book. Am not home at the mo.

We were saying last night that Maud may have turned a corner but I don't want to tempt fate, she seems to be less fussy with her veg, so am hoping this will be the start of some weight gain. It could be longer than 6 weeks but is definitely within the last 2 months.

Thanks, and fingers crossed for Maud x
