Hi all,

My Guinea pig had a full ovariohysterectomy on the 17th so is now almost 2 weeks post op. She has had both 3 day and 10 day post op checks and they are super happy with how she is healing. She is now not on meds but I am still worried about her. Her appetite has decreased but she is still eating, toileting and moving around. Does anyone have any experience of how long their piggy took to be back to 100% normal. I have been closely monitoring her weight and she is staying at around 850g marks but previously was 1100g before spay. Is this amount of weight loss normal? Her cysts were huge and the biggest the surgeons had seen. They were each around 5cm wide! I don’t know if I am over thinking it or if there is anything else I can do. I did take her to an emergency vet appointment on the 4th day as her poops were softer and she seemed quite lethargic but the vet said it takes a long time for recovery for this big of an op. I seem to only find online about the first few days after the op and not much experience on the weeks following. Any experience or stories would be good to hear or any advice. My piggy is around 4.5 years old and lives with two other girls and a neutered male. Thanks in advance :)

I have had sows spayed due to ovarian cysts but I can’t remember exactly how long it took for full recovery.
It can take a while for anaesthetic to clear the system.
Mine did make good recoveries.
Your girl is clearly in excellent hands but it is natural to worry.
She’s eating and pooping and has been vet checked .
Keep an eye on her and if you’re still worried go back to the vet.
