Hey guys, got back from my hols very late yesterday and can I tell you I am so glad to see my little ladies again. I left them in the care of a house mate who, although doesnt have as much piggy-sense, has a very big heart and took DT to the vets for her stitches out yesterday (already a week delayed because she had pulled one out and was having blood tinged fluid escaping)... anyway.. I had her out today for a thorough play and noticed a large pool of pink pee in one of the corners. I popped her on my lap with some cucumber and within minutes a second pool with some poop appeared.. but still pink! I rang the vet who said it can happen and although they had appointments today suggested I wait till tomorrow and see if it is still happening. I said no.. I want an appt today so I'm going over at 2.30.

its not the same blood tinged fluid form her stitched because its pooling behind her and her tummy is dry when she scampers off.. its definitely pee. I think its a seperate case of an UTI.. if my housemate hasnt cleaned her as thoroughly as I have been doing she may have been sat on her little poops for anything up to 2 days I think. I already noticed yesterday all the towels had been put on a wash on the day of my return... and an old toy had been put back in. I'm thinking my friend didnt realise how dirty things can get if you leave it too long.. so much for my page long instructions..

anyway... question is.. has anyone heard of post op/ post stitch removal cysitis? Is it cystitis or is it something else? aaaand.. is there anything I can do to stop her from tweaking at her last remaining stitch (he left one in next to the glue he had put in - as she had nibbled one out a week ago)..

cheers guys

This is the season for UTIs; it is one of these opportunistic things that can pounce whenever the immune system is somewhat lowered.

Hopefully, you can get it under control quickly. Make sure that she gets plenty of fluids to help flush the bladder. Some mild diuretics (like dandelions) can initially also help. Give unsweetened cranberry juice either pure or mixed with water, as much as she will take. That will also provide her with extra vitamin C.

excllent help thanks!

I also forgot to mention she's losing fur around her armpits... its different from where the shaved but I havent noticed extreme grooming there.. just mild.. could she still be losing fur following ovarian cyst surgery? or might she be pulling it out with irritation from the stitches?

It sounds hormonal rather than mites. Best discuss it with your vet.

back from the vets.. she thinks the hair loss was indeed hysterectomy related hormonal fluctuations. So gold star for you :p

As for the pink she suggested I wait until Friday to see if it's still a problem but she was reluctant to give her antibios and probios and mess anything up for her when she's still trying to heal. Means being on a severe pee patrol but whatever is best :)

off to my local health shop to find untampered cranberry juicage... or failing that some fresh cranbo's and invent a yummy something-something for her..

big thanks for the help.. its not easy being a paranoid riddled parent!
