So its 0.3 per kg, my pig is 780g. How much zithromax does he need?

It depends entirely on the concentration of medication you have. Did your vet not give you a dose? Does the bottle say how many mg per ml?

No because I asked for it whilst I saw him at work so it wasn't a formal consultation. He comes in and treats our work animals.
Box is powder to prepare, 15 ml suspension - 200mg/5ml

So what's the dosage and how often? D:

I don't have any old boxes I have used in the past to confirm 100% that yours is the same strength but believe it is. To make to 15mls the powder needs 9ml of tap water adding and thoroughly mixing, then the dose I have always been told is 1ml per kg, so a 0.78kg pig would need o.78ml per day, I have always been told to give this in one dose, once a day.

Once zithromax is made up it has a very short life (hence it comes in powder form) so it is often reccomended to split the powder in half and mix one half with 4.5ml water and then make up the second half with an other 4.5mls when the first is used up.

It all depends on the 0.3 per kg and what that 0.3 actually is - is that 0.3mg/kg? 0.3ml/kg? I'd recommend calling the vet in the morning to clarify doses.

I have just got home and checked my box, as I currently have a piggy on zigthromax and yes the strength is the same. Pound Shilling & Pig is exactly right in what she says.

Balls. Already mixed it up, didn't think about splitting it. I've given him 0.3 ml so far so I'll give him the rest now I guess. My work was told different dosage though. As they said 0.3 twice a day

Thanks all. I'll do the dosage you've said.
The box said life is 5 days, I don't suppose it could stretch to 7? I'll try and get him to the vets Thurs for check up as he was debating op if the infection is still bad. I think it looks loads better, just hoping it's not hiding beneath

I have seen the photo you posted in the haven. To be honest, I see no reason why another op would be needed. Eliza's eye socket looked very similar to that.

But I am not a vet. Fingers crossed he doesn't need another x

Here is a pic from tonight. I've been bathing it minimum twice a day and he's been on antibiotics. Also been told to put honey on it

You're right, it is looking better already :)

Believe me, I know how hard it is but keep going.

Eight weeks after Eliza's first op, her wound has nearly closed up and she is back living with her friends. I look back at the photos and can't believe how far she has came. You will be the same x

OK so he's had the 0.75 ml which was suggested on here. Is there a limit to how long a pig should be on zithromax? I'm hoping to get a vet appointment for thurs evening to see if the infection has cleared by then. So far it's healing nicely and only minimal pus. Sonfingers crossed on the way to a full recovery.
Got him a new cage today. Hes been living in a big carrier case whilst Ill and also an area of my room I fenced off for him, but it was a little messy.

Vet is happy there's no infection! A few more days on antibiotics and keep cleaning the wound until its healed but yay after over a month we have beat these abscesses!
