Max is a 3.5 year old unneutered boar who is here on his holidays with his brother Paddy. Both boys were born here at the reacue, and adopted around 3 years ago.

Max was unwell when he arrived back, weighing around 810g.
We took him straight to the vet and it's clear he had a large bladder stone.
This was removed yesterday.
Surgery went well considering he was down to 745g and very weak. Took a long time for him to be able to maintain his own temperature but he did in the end.

We've been syringe feeding but he finds it very tiring and we only manage about 5ml at a time. He is only just nibbling on plantain leaves, grass and dandelions.

We are keeping him warm with a blanket and a snugglesage. We have had to divide the c and c in two as Paddy was squashing him, literally sitting on him lol.

He's on three types of strong pain relief. We also have potassium citrate and frusol to help prevent a reoccurence but I won't be using the frusol yet as he is dehydrated.

The wound looks nice and neat, no signs of infection.

We'll be giving him subcut fluids later.

I know he was weak before the surgery and it's a miracle he made it through it but I'm so worried he doesn't seem to be recovering well at all.

I have seen him try for a wee with no pain though, not sure if anything came out.

The vet has had a pig in the past who took nearly a fortnight to recover... I just hope and pray he recovers full stop...

Poor Max. I hope he’s soon feeling much better.

My Percy had a stone removed and didn’t recover well from the surgery. Unfortunately he passed 4 days later. 😭

Sending Max healing vibes ❤️

Fingers very firmly crossed that he makes it through.

I think often the pain relief is needed but can leave them lethargic. We had to syringe feed Milo post surgery for about 4 days, once the pain relief was reduced to just Metacam he picked up quite quickly. He had major surgery from the removal of skin cancer from his back, he recovered well but we lost him a few months later to a recurrence of the cancer.

Fingers crossed that Max is feeling better soon.

He is on quite a lot! Metacam, paracetamol and tramadol. I can imagine the tramadol is making him sleepy for sure.

Can I ask how long it was after surgery that he was just on metacam?

We're speaking to the vet again tomorrow but it's good to get an idea 👍

I've read before that Tramadol can make them sleepy I hope he is soon on the mend and reunited with his brother 💙

I think he was on just Metacam after about 3 or 4 days. His Metacam dose was 1ml of the dog version twice a day. He was on that for around a week and then a lower dose for a further week. He weighed around 1kg.

Awesome, thank you 😊
