Potential eye poke?

It looks a lot better than yesterday but still healing. He did say a couple of days, but I can use the drops for up to a week if needed. I was a bit confused as the packaging said apply twice a day, but he said once so I take his word

Yea just go with the vets instructions which is always best. Last time I dealt with hay poke I had eye drops 4 times a day but think it was different ones. We ended up doing 2-3 weeks because it was quite bad and the vet was worried we'd lose her eye. Now you wouldn't ever know it had happened

Lucky your piggie is okay! Yeah I think it just depends on how bad it is

Yes it does. Mine was still only superficial apparently but it swelled up and looked much worse than it was. Probably doesn't help that she's a pink eyed anyway
Aww pink eyes are adorable! Luckily there was no swelling or redness, but maybe that is because I noticed it quickly

I could be over worrying, but has Ernie got a haypoke? He’s eating, drinking, playing etc and he seems generally fine. The first picture is the one I’m worried about and the second is the other eye. He seems perfectly fine in himself, but I did have to wipe away a little bit of gunk I guess it’s called
Hi everyone,

His eye is looking much better, but still not better. He was being very fussy this morning with his drops and I missed a few which landed on his head🤣 normally he is fine, but I think where he wanted his veggies he was becoming irritated

That looks much better. When my piggies have haypoke they are normally given Isathal and the last time Dennis had haypoke he had a blue film over his eye and he was given a cornea repair gel too. I had to put the Isathal in first, wait for half an hour then put in the cornea repair gel twice a day for 7 says. That was a few weeks ago. He hated it and he still hasn't forgiven me!:lol!:

Yeah the vet just gave me isathal, but he couldn’t see any damage. I’m going back for a check up on Friday so if he needs anything else he will say

It still looks quite sore, but he’s chilling in a brown paper bag😂
His eye looks a lot better and is fully open, but does not look as bright as the other one? (if that makes sense) No gunk, redness or anything and I have been using Isathal since late Saturday afternoon (one drop every morning) and it has worked, but it just doesn't look at bright. He is is no discomfort or anything and they are going to the vets on Friday for a general check-up and to check his eye. Should I just wait?

I think it's fine to wait until your appointment on Friday if the eye looks ok and he seems happy in himself.

The eye looks fine, but I will probably get her to check again for any damage

What a gorgeous boy.
Sounds as if he’s doing well.
It does take time for an eye to heal fully so he’s still doing well.
When Jemimah had haypoke it took 2 weeks to clear fully

Quick update. Just got back from the vets from a checkup and they are really healthy. The vet put a dye in Ernies eye to check for any damage and there was no damage and just said to keep with the drops until Tuesday. Also, as they are both boys, the vet said once they hit their teenage years they may get a little feisty (which I am aware of) and said if it gets bad to think about castration. Although she said it won’t solve it, it might help ease tensions. Any thoughts? All is really well at the moment and they get along like a house on fire

Castrating boars doesn't alter their behaviour in any way all it does it stop them making babies. There is a guide on the myths of neutering under the behaviour, bonding and bereavement guides which you may find interesting. Can't link it in on this device.

She did say that, but I just want to know what people think. Of course each piggy has different personalities and the contexts are different for each individual

All that for £26! Bargain lol

In terms of this, the context isn’t different for each indivdidual - neutering does not change boar behaviour. It will not calm them down when they become teenagers. They will still rumble, chase and mount each other and if they are going to fall out, then they will still fall out regardless of whether they are neutered or not.
All it would mean is if they were to fall out, if would enable you to put them with a sow each quicker.

This is the guide @Betsy is referring to!

I mean the contexts of the owners and what (as an owner) they feel is best
