Piggle and I were browsing the local online pet supply ads last night wondering if we might find a big second hand hutch, when we saw an ad for a little male piggy priced at £0. I was curious why he'd be given away free... owner bought him 5 weeks ago on his own from pets at home and now the kids are bored of him and nobody wants to clean out his cage so he's being given away! Poor little guy, 14 weeks old and already not wanted, that made me so sad, and he looked so handsome...
Fingers crossed we pick him up tomorrow.

So...
Quarantine
Vet check
Introduce to girls from a next door cage
New hutch across the yard from the girls
Neutering
6 week wait after neutering
Introduce properly and hope they make a nice herd?

Does that cover everything? Was I far too impulsive? But I was watching Piggle and Puggle popcorning around their playpen with all their toys and it made me so sad to think of this little guy sat alone in a cage somewhere with nobody loving him...

It sounds like you have everything covered. Sadly unwanted piggies fetch up in the free-ads. Rescues are often trying their best to get them if there are any good ones in the area.

After the quarantine your boy can live alongside the girls ideally with interaction through mesh as long as he cannot get at them physically. It helps massively with acceptance during introduction. He is also still young enough to need company desperately (not that any piggy is ever too old for company).

I'm going to order another playpen then clip them together with a dividing wall... if we get him, and if he's ok! I was so worried someone would take him for snake food or something I offered to pay for him even though he's advertised as free. I'll update tomorrow evening with pics if he gets here safely!

Aw poor little thing. Fancy not wanting a piggie:yikes:. I can't imagine that! If my OH would let me, I would have more. He says 5 is enough ..... I'm thinking maybe another girly for a nice even 6 ......

Doesn’t it make you so angry that people think pets are like disposable toys?
You have such a big heart and he’s a lucky boy to be rescued by you.
Looking forward to pictures

I know, we've actually only had Piggle and Puggle for 8 weeks but they've totally taken over my house and my life and I couldnt imagine ever getting bored with them! We are complete guinea pig slaves forever now, my husband commented that I asked him to cook veggie enchiladas for dinner tonight "because Piggle likes the smell when you cook the veg" as the main reason. Last night we had stirfry for dinner because I know the piggies like beansprouts :)

Just hope we get him, the advert is still up and getting views which is a worry- but I offered £20 for him and £20 for his cage (which we dont need but a spare cage is always useful! Just wanted to make sure nobody else gets him) And we're meant to collect him at 7pm tomorrow so hopefully he will be our new potential husboar! I'm so nervous now because the owners are clearly not good people but I hope nobody else in the local area will spend £40 on a free piggy and collect before tomorrow night... we're already talking about him as if he's ours and making plans to entertain him during quarantine so I just hope he's there waiting for us tomorrow!

This is Theo, potential husboar rescued from the free ads and a previous owner who got bored of him after only 5 weeks! He arrived half an hour ago and he seems to be very friendly and a fully functional guinea pig (eats hay and parsley) of the correct age (14 weeks) based on comparisons of size with our ladies who are a bit older and bigger. I'm not going to probe his bum tonight to check he is a he, but so far so good :)

He's so handsome but I was just looking at the cage and accessories sent with him and it almost made me cry, all his toys are pink plastic crap and have been chewed to bits out of boredom and the cage clearly hadnt been washed out in the whole time his previous owners had him... cage is now scrubbed, plastic toys in the bin and replaced with a hay cube, a dandelion chew bar and a cardboard hidey house, plus lots of hay :) here's a pic of Theo bonding with his new human daddy over some red peppers :)

Piggle and Puggle clearly know something is going on, they got put in the playpen early then got put to bed early and their humans were nervous and taking sawdust and hay out of their bedroom... they are on high alert!

Piggle and Puggle when your new potential husboar has been neutered you will be allowed to play but only after 6 weeks. Now you just have to wonder what on piggie land is going on! You won't be able to meet him for at least 2 weeks while quarantine is going on and then only through some very strong bars!

Theo doesnt actually have a complete stripe, he has a white star between his eyebrows, a white nose, a roguish black moustache and then a white hipster beard. He's so handsome though, I just hope he learns to act like a proper guinea pig, currently he's focused on trying to please humans by running to see us if we go in the room but otherwise sitting in his cardboard house looking sad. He must have been so lonely for 5 weeks sitting on his own in a stinky cage knawing on plastic things. But his new cardboard house was donated by Piggle and Puggle so clearly smells of ladies which must be giving him something normal to think about!

Oh by golly he’s a cute little chap, isn’t he? He has landed on his paws.

I’m sure he will love being husboar to your ladies. But you may have to wait a little while until he is slightly older and his testicles are fully descended before he can be neutered, so he may be separate a little while longer. Just make sure that he can’t get at your ladies in that time and all will be well I am sure. He has had a fabulous caring and knowledgeable home, so much more than many piggies ever get.

Sorry I thought the nose was enough of a stripe. Proper cute anyway, I'm sure the wifeypigs will adore him, who wouldn't!

Well Theo is definitely a boy, we checked this morning. And although technically he might not have a complete stripy nose... he has a hilarious stripe somewhere else! I will try get a pic for the Stripey Nose Club but any impressionable lady piggies should be warned that its a rather rude place to have a stripe :)

That is why Rosie and Errol are representatives for pigs less striped!

 Dennis only needs a piccie of the nose!

Theo is a very handsome and lucky boy.
I hope that when he meets the girls they will bond happily
