Hi everyone, i desperately need some help. I have been finding ‘ snail-like’/slime trails in my guinea pig hutch (outside) in particularly one corner of the hutch. Not only this, ive also found small bead-like white/green substances.
Please someone help me, i have blitzed the hutch and pulled it apart and even jet washed it - but they still come back. I cant work out what they are!

They could just be slugs or snails. Is it affecting your pigs? Are they acting sick?

No not at all, the guinea pigs are absolutely fine. They are smaller than a rice grain these little egg-type things. Do you have an email that i could send the photos to for advice. I cant seem to add photos on here! Thank you so much!

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Please don’t ask for peoples emails.

You will be able to post photos once you have been a member for a short while.

I’m sorry but I don’t have any experience of this issue. Hopefully someone will be along soon to give some advice.

Hi and welcome

Please take a deep breath.

Sounds like it could be slugs or snails; nothing to worry about. They do not harm piggies.

Please replace the hutch bedding regularly and feed a moderate amount of peferably green veg and fresh herbs plus 1 tablespoon of pellets in such measures that they can be eaten in one go and do not hang around. At least three quarters what guinea pigs eat in a day should be hay/grass fibre - the more of the latter they eat, the healthier and more long-lived your piggies will be so we do not recommend to have pellets and veg hanging around at all times anyway; veg and pellets only replace the supplementary role that fresh forage used to have in the grass based diet that guinea pigs have evolved on.
By not having any fresh stuff hanging around overnight and by regular cleaning, you will attract less wildlife.

PS: I have edited the title of your thread. You will get more knowledgeable owner help amd tips by stating your problem in the title as that will attract the right members. Please do not use upper case, it makes it less legible when we go through the alerts whenever we come on here. We do our best to answer all threads.

Please don’t worry. It’s slugs or snails. They won’t harm your piggies, they’re just not very nice. We used to get them in my hutch when I had outdoor piggies. You could try putting a trail of salt around the legs of the hutch to deter them
