Hi,

I am currently using woodshavings in george's cage (awful i know) but was ill advised by the petshop.

I want to get vet bed but really want something else for his wee corners as in a day he does loads of wees.

he has a play pen which I assemble everynight and give him a good 3/4 hours of a run around. I have a litter tray in there which he always wees in.

Could I train him to only go in one corner of the cage so I can put litter tray in on top of the vetbed? Also what is safe litter to use as want to get away from shavings! could I use some kind of cat litter are there any safe ones?

Thanks X:)

With chocco he already had a preffered corner for doing his business so i just put his litter tray in that corner with a few poops in so he got the idea. In his tray I use a wood based cat litter so he wont kill himself if he has the ocasional nibble, i also have a pile of hay to one side as piggies like to eat and poop at the same time :D

may try it then only the corner he prefers i don't as has his water bottle, can't seem to find any where else to put his bottle so may be a battle to get him trained we will see how he goes!

Hi, i have a corner litter tray on top of my vet bed. Its placed below their hay rack as they tend to wee & poo while eating. They use it great! obviously they still poo every where else too, but they are only 10 & 8 weeks old, so i'm sure they'll get there in the end.

I've been using P@H small pet wood litter which is £3.22 for 7ltr, but recently thought i'd try the carefresh which is £3.22 for 10ltr.

I've found they are both as good as each other, very absorbent and no unpleasant odours.

should have said.......i placed their litter tray there and they just went to it, as i had the same trouble and the corner its in was the only place to put it!

will def try the P@h small pet wood litter then possibly the carefresh just need to sirt outt he vet bed, found some that was very reasonable as I need 60"x40" it is going to be expensive but prices do seem to vary a lot I am keeping my eye out & I have sent message to the person I think I want to buy frm.

Has anyone found a "best" colour for vet bed, I have the choice of blue, green, grey & white. Thinking of going for blue as quite dark & hoping poos won't look so bad!

Having a litter tray does it mean you can leave a couple of days before cleaning or do you still have to do it everyday?

I have a blue one and a lilac one, simply because i liked the colours!

The lilac one looks lovely with their pink litter tray and their pink polka dot hammock!

I still have a quick clean around each day to remove any poo and change their litter tray every day too. But i only use about 1 - 1 1/2 handfuls of litter per cahnge, so its not bad really.

The vet bed i have is fab! its so thick, like a deep pile carpet! heres a link to the buyer i got mine from......this is the size you've said you'll need.

don't know how this price compairs to the others you've looked at, as the ones i have are slightly smaller! However i can highly recommend these! And the seller!

Can you choose a colour when purchasing?

yeah you buy then add a msg stating which colour you want, delivery is very quick!

Dont know how different a 28 mm would be compared to 31 mm, i only know that the 31 mm ones i have are lovely!.......sorry i can't be much help!.....

They both get washed at least once a week alternately and no shrinkage or anything!

do you put hay on the vet bed? how does that work, when i used fleece bedding i couldnt get it off, i brushed and hooevered and used a lint remover and still ended up in the washer when the fleeces went in a wash pouch from hammocky hammocks.

TBH it was too much hastle and took so long to clean them out and i only had 2 cages then, now i have 4!

the hay goes in a hay rack above their litter tray, so most thats dropped and not eaten ends up in there!

I find it no problem at all.....i work full time, but every evening my 3 are let out for a good old run, i clean round their cage, pick up poos, clean out the litter, top up hay etc. then twice a week empty and clean everything!

I pick up as much as i can from the vet bed, usually only a small amount of hay has fallen on it. if its more i use a little hand held hoover thing to zapp over it. Pop it in an old duvet, knot it, bang in the washer, drier...comes out clean and spotless, no probs at all!

but i've kind of got a good routine going on!

find it much much easier than any other bedding i've ever used in the past!

potty training down the pan. He uses his "potty" whilst in his play pen but when I put it in his cage he wees everywhere but in it. He has started weeing in his bed again which he hasn't done for about 3 weeks. May try re-arranging his house and turning it around a 180 so bed end at opposite end and see if we can start again. Does this work?

I thought it might I a give it a good scrub then leave his litter tray obvoiusly emptied out but not cleaned would the scent make him do it in right place?
