It is twenty minutes till midnight here in Boston, and after our nightly snuggle, Gus jumped prematurely out of my hands (about 8 inches above the fleece base of his habitat) and landed, on his back legs, on top of his little ceramic pellet dish and cried a cry I've never heard come out of his sweet fuzzy body! *tears*
I immediately scooped him up and snuggled him (gently) next to my heart! Petting him gently and telling him, over and over and over; "Momma's right here..." Until his breathing calmed down and he seemed calm and ok on my chest. (About fifteen minutes)
I placed him ever so delicately back into his habitat and watched him for a good twenty minutes; walk, drink, chat with Charlie, etc... I went to chop up some celery and retuned to a very happy, but cautiously walking, Gus and he and his little brother are happily eating their celery . In my heart, since he appears to be behaving quite normally & his cried are completely gone, I feel that perhaps it was both the scariness of the fall and his little knee hitting the dish that caused him to cry like he did & maybe he is fine now and hopefully I haven't allowed anything long term to happen... PLEASE, ALL OF YOU, say a prayer for my Gus- I am still shaking and beyond heartbroken to imaging that he is truly injured! I am gonna lay here as long as I can keep my eyes open so as to be able to keep watch over my little guy & make sure he is ok!

*tears*

It must have been horrible, but it doesn't sound like there has been any permanent damage, thankfully. Gus is a gorgeous looking piggy! As Gizzy said, keep a close eye. I always check the teeth after a fall as they can often be broken, sometimes below the gumline, but as Gus landed feet first, they are likely to be fine. Hugs to you and the fabulous Gus. x

Massive hugs, hope all is well today with him. What an awful shock x

I will keep my fingers crossed for a speedy Recovery for Gus. Hope he is feeling better in the morning x

Barney did the same thing a few weeks ago. He jumped off my lap when i was kneeling down and landed in his food bowl. He gave himself (and me) a big fright, and it's not like him to be frightened, but then he was absolutely fine. Fingers crossed that this is the same for Gus too x

Oh what an awful fright, but it does sound like little more than a fright, and perhaps a couple of bruises. My Sunrise leapt over another pig, from the top of the ramp, and landed on her back. There she lay, making dying-fly movements. I was horrified. But then all at once she snapped out of it and flipped herself right-side up. I think she had winded herself, which IS a horrible feeling, but she was fine. I on the other hand, was a shocked wreck for a small time!
My hope is that it's nothing more than this type of event, and though he may have a couple of bruises, will be as right as reign.
Keep an eye that his legs don't swell up, but if you are concerned I don't think any vet would mind you taking him down to see them as a precaution :) x

That sounds scary. Just keep an eye on how he is moving and check he is still eating and drinking ok. If he seems in pain at all, speak to the vet about an anti-inflammatory.

Awe my poor Gus :(
Paws crossed for him on the other side of the pond. You take care honey xx

Hope you and Gus are Ok and over your nasty shock. These things happen in such a flash, so scary. Hugs to you both.

Hope everything is ok with Gus, with a little luck it was nothing more than the equivalent of one of us falling over - it hurts and shocks us but no real damage.

On a side note, he sure is a handsome chap!

Oh I hope Gus is ok and just had a fright and is just a little sore and after a good night's sleep will be back to his normal self.

Sending *hugs* to you both xx

Hi there , How is Gus now
Hi! Gus seems to be doing as good as can be expected! He is walking, haven't seen him running yet, but did get a few popcorns just now when I went in with a big bowl of vedge for everyone! He is eating and drinking fine and, aside from the initial crying out in pain immediately after the incident, he hasn't done it again & is ok to snuggle with me... THANK GAWD! Please, everyone, keep my handsome little nugget in your thoughts and prayers!

l am so happy that Gus has been popcorning , that is a very good sigh
and yes the little guy will be in our prayers , he has found his way in to quite a few peoples heart

Go Gus :yahoo:

Popcorning is a good sign

We are definitely thinking about the wee guy and he is in our prayers :luv:

Sending lots of hugs to you both

what a relief! Give Gus a cuddle from me and tell him to stop trying circus tricks or his mom will be a nervous wreck!

Awww poor Gus! I think it was more the fall that scared him than any actual damage. You'd know by now if he was seriously hurt.

It happened to me with Yogi when I was putting her back into the cage, she leaped out of my hands and fell onto the plastic platform. She's running around fine now and this was months ago. She's a little worm!
