Is there anything you do when bringing home a new pig, for instance maybe spot on treatment?

I don't think I'd give any precautionary medication, personally. But I would always do a thorough check of their general appearance, probably after a bath so that I could check their skin more thoroughly & see any lumps & bumps. Check their weight as well, and continue to monitor that weekly or fortnightly.

To be honest I've always taken new pets to a vet for a check-up - they can do all the things I can't like look at the back teeth, listen to heartbeat & stomach sounds, etc - it's generally worth it for peace of mind...

Don't forget to Quarantine your new pig before introducing them to your existing guinea pigs.

Doh! yes good point. Didn't cross my mind as all rabbits go to the vets anyway to get jabbed/neutered and obviously checked over then.

Can pigs catch EC? I've lost a bun to this and so all the others have been panacured as a precaution. I don't have any pigs at the moment but am paranoid about 'bringing something in'.

The best thing you can do is get your pigs from a reputable rescue, as they will only let pigs go when they are fit and well.

Whereabouts in London are you?

The worst thing you can do is get some from Pets At Home, unless you like spending lots of time and money down the vets!

good good :))

Hmm East London, I know there is a rescue in Essex but it's over in Sarf End so a bit far!

If you can get to Crawley there are two very good rescues there :) Crawley is about 40 mins from London Victoria on the train

Crawley is probably do-able. Took me about an hour each way to get Daisy (rabbit) from a rescue in surrey. Which rescues are they?
