grrrr I went into P@H in Lichfield today with Mum to get fat balls for the birds, and pick up some Natures Salad for the spoilt ones, and of course had to go and look at the beautiful piggies as they were squeeking like mad.
Their food bowl was empty, and the chincilla's having a boing around in their tiny pen above them were upsetting them. Anyway, I notice one piggie that looked a little sad and was on her own, then another piggie went over to her and they teeth chattered etc, and both went off to see if any food had appeared....and I saw that one of them was pretty noticably pregnant, and the other one was a possibility! 8...

Mum and I were pretty loathe to leave them, but I'm having a hysterectomy in 8 days, and I really dont think it would be fair to the little one, or my parents and OH to have another baby to feed and care for, especially if she pigs before I'm more mobile.

Is there anyone who could go and have a look at them? They are all - the boar pen and the sow pen - scratching well, so there may be a mite problem too.......

I wish I could have bought her home, she and her friend looked about 10/12 weeks old possibly a bit older, and the biscuit and white sow who is showing pregnant looks to be about 5 weeks in, she has pingpong balls in her tummy, the other one, a sandy browny/grey and white was looking just 'dumpy'.

Should I go back and get her tomorrow? I have a big pen she could go in, and I could find space for her somewhere.......argh!

If you can't bring her home, could you not go back in and demand that she is taken off sale? I am concerned for the mum and her babies if she gets in to the wrong hands :(

I too am concerned....I think I'm going to have to go back and get her...I dont know if I would trust them to A) take her off sale, and B) Care for her correctly if/when she litters down....
Oh dear, I think I might have 'The Wrath of Mother' piled on me in full force tomorrow! (Just fyi, I am an adult, but due to finances my OH and I live in the family home, so the rule of 'bow down to Mum' applies!)
Hmmmmm, how to smuggle a pregnant piggie into the fold and pretend she has been here forever......

Rosehip...
Hiya... If you are really worried and want her out of the situation I will happily take her in to rescue if you would pick her up...?
I have some space at the moment but due to the panic about breeders pigs she would be quarantined for 6 weeks in my moms house which is only in Tamworth... :)
I'm only taking in emergencies and a pregnant pet shop pig certainly is...!
If I can help heres my number... 07773 940 460
Thanks

Thank you so much Clare! I am going to sleep on it tonight (there isnt anything I can do now the shop is closed) and will more then likely go and get little one in the morning when I have finished the yard.
If there is a massive bust up at home then I will give you a call, but I would feel awful if I somehow bought this dying disease to you and your babies....
xx

Okie kokie... :)
I'd have gone in myself but I bawled them out the other day about selling lethals and they know I'm a rescue... :))

Don't worrie about that disease... I'm not really worried if I'm honest and they would be quarantined in Tamworth... I live in Measham... :))

But if I'm needed feel free to contact me and if you decide to keep her and want some advice on how to care for pregnant piggies you can give us a bell aswell... :)
Good luck and let us know how you get on...!

Personally I wouldn't buy her or encourage others to do so. First of all, there's no certainty she is pregnant. If you do buy them then you're simply being a customer, not a rescuer. They are NOT allowed to sell pregnant or sick animals, this is a condition of their licence - I would inform the store manager that you are going to contact your local environmental health who issue their licence.

If you or someone else is able to get them out for free and have the facility to quarantine them away from others then by all means go for it, but giving them money would be a big pat on the back for them to continue doing what they're doing.

That is anotherr issue I was going to raise (before my OH pinched the computer!) I'm not really a fan of giving the idiots who think it is ok to sell pregnant piggies to people without a bye-your-leave my hard earned cash - even if it is to get an innocent out of a situation.
They know I have guineas as the girl I approached about their feedbowl being empty was asking me about my piggies, but I'm not brilliant at confrontation, and dont know if I could pursuade them to give her to me.
As you say daftscotslass, I dont actually know if she is pregnant yet, she certainly looks it, and Ive had plenty of experience to notice the signs, but without handling her I couldnt say for definate.

Clare, I havent noticed lethals in there before, but the big ginger sow has been in for months! x

Can I just ask whether you raised your concerns with any of the staff or the manager at all? I think my first port of call would always be to do so to see if they do what they are supposed to (ie take the piggy off of sale)

Does anyone know what P@H DO with the piggies removed from sale? That would be my worry!

Stick them out the back away from public view, get them treated if they are ill (maybe), let them give birth if they are pregnant, stick the babies in the regular sale pen then the mother will usually go into the adoption section.

Sorry was busy with the rescue pigs...

DSL... If she was to contact me this would have all be spoken through... I am a rescue and I'm of the same opinion as you as to lining these tw*ts pockets... I've had a friend go in a buy a lethal the other day to no proffit of p@h... I just couldn't type all of it out as I'm on my phone... Hense why I added the rescue number just incase she wanted to contact me further...
I make sure of that... But I appreciate your concern none the less...

Poor ginger pig...! I'm quite supprised..! Ginger pigs are normally quite sought after...

Well, I dont think I'm going to be welcome at that particular P@H again....
I went back this morning, with the intention of at least advising them of what they need to do with this little girl, and if needs be to bring her home with me.

When I went in the girl who served me yesterday gave me a 'look', so I made out that I was interested in buying a piggie. I asked to hold the one I thought was pregnant, and had a furtive feel of her tummy. I then said to the girl that I thought they may have a problem in a few weeks time as I'm pretty sure she is pregnant and about half way through gestation. I was going to offer advice but then she took the piggy off me and asked me to leave the store, as I was obviously 'one of those rescue girls'.
I told her that they couldnt sell her in pig and that she needed proper attention. I was told that the manager would 'deal with it' and again asked to leave. I didnt want to cause a scene so I did go.

The ginger piggie isnt the most 'attractive' girl to be honest, she looks moth eaten and quite grumpy, which I think is pretty cute to be honest, but might be putting people off!

It is worth writing a letter to head office to complain about this. If enough people complain they will do something. But it really needs to be in writing.

I'd write a stiff letter about being asked to leave the store - you were only giving advice to the numpties who obviously have no idea on what a pregnant piggy looks like mallethead :...
Dread to think what will become of her - poor innocent little thing, I'd go back and get her tbh - you have offer from a rescue member to take her ?/
I'd go myself but adopted a new girl last night and is in quarantine so am at full capacity again rolleyes
Know we can't help them all but these kind of things really get up my nose and change me from a very laid back person into a snarling b***h :laluot_14:

I was going to take her myself as I have room, but after being asked to leave the store I dont think I would get back inside now!
The letter to head office is half finished on my laptop! ;-) People dont nark me off and get away with it! x

Holy crap, I would make a formal complaint about the treatment you were given..

OMG I was in the Lichfield P@H on Tuesday! I did have a quick glance at the pigs but didn't look very hard, too scared of seeing something I should sort out!

Gggrrrrrrr I hate the numpties that work in there but I guess I should hate the management more...

I truely believe these pigs should be saved as they buy their pigs 'cheep' in bulk from
European guinea pig farms :'( but buying them just fuels more to be bought...

Ginnypig, I only went over to the piggies as they were making so much noise (spooked by the chinchilla's above them) and then mum and I were looking at the beautiful colours of them....I hate noticing things! xx
