just went to my local garden centre for some hay and some food for my rabbits and i couldnt resist but have a look at the rabbits and Guineas and they had about 10 grown up Guinea pigs in a run all going for £10 they were mixed male and female and their was one Guinea i noticed was pregnat :o she was very big it looks like shes near the end of her pregnancy (but I'm not an expert so cant really be sure on that) i was going to get her but i thought what am i going to do with the babies :( so i left without buying her but now i wonder if ive done the right thing :-\ as she could end up in a home with little kids who are going to manhandle her and her babies :o makes me think if i should go back for her but i really dont have room :( but i suppose i could make some ahhhh what should i do? :-\

No i didnt :-\ i didnt have the guts :o I'm a big wimp :embarassed: maybe i should tell my mum about it she likes causing abit of a scene especially when it comes to animals ;D she wouldnt think twice about going to the garden centre and putting the staff straight :o

i come from Northumberland its near Newcastle

Too far for me is this a big company or a independent?

the garden centre is quite popular everyone in the northumberland area buy their pets from there. they've normally been good with the animals in the past but recently they seem to be going down hill :-\ they seem to be over run with Guinea Pigs i dont think people are buying them at the minute :(

Maybe a complaint to the management or a call to the RSPCA and tell them you are concerned about the way these animals are being treated I am discussed that these places get away with it maybe a little visit from the RSPCA may push them to do something!

ive jus spoke to my mum and she told me to ring the RSPCA to lol will give them a ring i just hope they will do something :-\

They better! If not I will make a complaint too! even though I live no where near they dont have to know that!

Ring the RSPCA, see what they say and ask what the will be doing about it. If in a week she is still there isn't there anything you could do. Such as buy her and give her to a shelter or something. They don't sound like the sort of centre that cares. I know you have said they have been alright up untill now but you don't know what happens behind closed doors. These adult guineas are probably their old breeding stock. :(

poor little girl hope shes well looked after what with this new law surely the RSPCA can prosecute them, if all else fails let your mum rip them apart good luck but let us know what happens

Well done you for noticing.

On another note - where are you in Northumberland? :)

Grr! These places should know full well not to keep males and females together! The males could fight and kill each other until 1 boar is left! Ooo I am worried about these little guineas! Quaver I think you should say something to the RSPCA AND the pet shop it's self, SPECIALLY about sexing the piggies and separating them.
I mean say if I boar gets a sow preggy, and she has the babies and the boar mates with the babies, and the babies get pregnant, then the babies could die because they could die giving birth! :( Oh please quaver say something to the shop/garden place! For the little piggies sakes!

:tickedoff: I'm in such the mood now :tickedoff: went back to this garden centre today the pregnant Guinea Pig was still there >:( and they still had her in a run with 20 other piggies :o in another run they have loads of baby rabbits one inparticualar was trying to move around but kept falling over on its side :'( i told one of the assistants that it wasnt normal for a rabbit to walk and fall over :o all i got was 'he was the runt of the litter so hes developing alot slower then the others' :o i also mentioned about the pregnant Guinea Pig (yes i had the courage as i was well p*ssed off! still am!) and all she said was 'shes just fat' so instead of causing a scene i told her i would take the ill rabbit (so i could get him some proper veterinary help!) and i left when i got home and lifted the bun out his box he was quite cold, very thin! i mean i can feel every bone in his body! and he had a messy bum :'( i have cleaned his bottom i rung the vets and they told me to make him comfortable, seringe feed him and they'll see him in the morning :( i am repoting this garden centre tomorrow to both the RSPCA and another place my mum suggested but i cant remember what you call it :-\ me and my mum have both took pics of the ill bun from the garden centre (mainly of his messy bum :o) i just hope they can do something :( :'( i also hope this bun pulls through :(

well done you and your mum do you eman trading standards? they are a good place because they can shut them down and fingers crossed the RSPCA do what they are intended for , hows the baby bun? hope hes ok keep him warm and hydrated maybe a small bit of cucumber will help it has a high water content, let the vet do his best and tell him all about whats going on sometimes they can have a lot of clout with places like this he will keep a record of baby buns health, I too ahd probelms with a garden centre I was offered a sick pig but when I was shown it he was almost dead, I reported them to both places and my local vet last i heard they had been banned from selling animals still sell fish I believe though, so make sure you pester everyone concerend and let them know you will write to your local paper if something is not done and quick, they will not want bad publicity. good luck and let us know what happens both with the baby bun and the garden centre

The local council (Environmental Health) will be the best people to get into contact with. These are the people who issue pet shop licenses, and therefore have the power to revoke it if the shop is not conforming to the correct standards. The RSPCA doesn't really have much power when it comes to pet shops, unless there is some very obvious neglect going on.

trading standards can help in that they can be banned from selling animals as they are not fit for sale so with all of them mentioned you should have all bases covered go get them girl, if anyone else knows of this place then please help her put and make complaints

Well done Quavers. I am so happy you got the little bunny. Without a doubt report them to as many authorities as possible and the RSPCA. Good luck with him and keep us updated on his recovery/progress. O0

These places. :tickedoff:

OMG this is so sad, your a good girl to do this Quavers O0 O0 O0
Mongrel shop, i hope they get stomped on, this is just not necessary it's animal cruelty :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff:

How's the little Bun today love?

Oh I am soooooo mad! How the hell do they get away with this I would ring everyone from the rspca to their management If only I lived closer I would blinkin sort them out! To let a bunny live like that is just appalling and that poor piggy! :'( :'( They are getting away with it and they know it, its easy money! >:(

hows baby bun been worried since I heard about him is it ahim or her or is it too little to see yet? what did the vet say put us out of our misery tell us he is ok please :'(

i sadly woke up to find the baby bun dead :'( I'm going to my mums in a bit and were both going to complain Big style :tickedoff: 666) went back to the garden centre for a refund for the baby bun and they apologized and offered me another rabbit :o i didnt take it though just asked for a full refund and left quietly but this is far from over >:(

Oh no that is soooo sad :'( :'( you really do need to make a complaint now this is very serious they sold you a rabbit that was ill with god know what virus ! :(

So sorry to hear about the baby. You did your best for the little fella and at least he got some love at the end.

RIP baby bun 0:) 0:) 0:)

I don't know if you saw my previous post but is it the one near Newcastle Airport? I only ask because my mum and dad go there so if it is I'll tell them to boycott it.

i didnt know there was one near newcastle airport :o ? i got him from Heighley gate your parents have probably heard of this garden centre as its really popular in the north east. i am sad about the little baby though i was already making future plans for him :o i was telling myself when he got better and he was neutered i would bond him with my two girls :( but obviously thats not going to happen now :( i got one funny pic of him though and thats one when he had the toilet tube stuck on his head ;D ::) aww memories... as yous can probably tell i became quite attached to the little lad i even picked a name out for him 'Harley' because he was a Harliquin minilop... anyways I'm going to stop babbling now and get phoning lots of places and complain! 666) :tickedoff:
