Took our little girl to the vet on Friday they are sending her labs off and it could be up to 14 days before we get results what can we do for her sores all over her body until then? Everything I've searched came up empty I'm completely beside myself as what to do, please help!

Hi April welcome to the forum to you and your piggie :)
Really sorry to hear about her having these sores........ do you think it's mites? i'm going to put a link on for you to look at........
14 days sounds a little too long for her to wait...... i'm not experienced in this area but i know one of our love peeps who are will help you ...... sorry they're probably all asleep at the moment someone will come along tomoro morning tho i'm sure :)

Forgot to add..

Thank you so much for the response.. I'm so sorry I did forget to add some info here I'm extremely upset and really just not thinking clearly.. They did two things at the vet one scrapped the score and ruled out mites.. Then they pluck hair to be sent off for ring worm but the link that you sent looks just like my baby with the bit marks in her skin and I'm so upset they said I can't treat her for anything because she's pregnant so they basically said she will have to suffer through this until she has her babies I can't just sit and watch this happen I wanna take action I just don't know what to do I'm afraid I'm hurting more than helping. They did send me home with a little bottle of wipes to wash the sores with but that's all. Sorry for the long post.

Now try to calm down, you've done the right thing by seeing the vets and also asking questions on here :)
Gorgeous Guineas make products i'm wondering if hers are safe for pregnant piggies?

I've just opened up her site and she's got info on it re pregnant piggies, "DO NOT USE ANYTHING WITH ESSENTIAL OILS"

Here's the link to her products i'm sure if you emailed her she'd be very helpful....she's helped many people on here, lots of people buy her products :)

You are an angel

I just feeling like crying every time I look at her she is so sad looking.. Can I order this medicine Ivermectin without a vet and treat her myself? I'm thinking he misdiagnosed her i dont think she has ringworm at all these are bloody sores not circles like the ringworn pictures ive seen also will this get ride of mites of do i need an oral medicaiton for her? She weights 2.4 lbs so she's not under weight but just worry about over dosing her if I use Ivermectin is there a guide that tells you how to give proper doses? I'm so new to this all. This is my first guinea and don't know much about illness. Thank you for being there :)

Where abouts are you? (just a rough idea) someone may know of a cavy savvy vets near you :)
Not sure that you should treat without speaking to the vets first tho.......

I'm in the US trying to see if Ivermectin is even available here on the ukvet site it doesn't allow US orders. This vet is the only vet I could find in West Virginia that would even see my guinea and was surprised when he said it was his first guinea this hospital has been opened for years. No other vets see them that I'm aware of but any info is greatly appreciated.

Glynis also just wanted to say you have been most helpful and feel free to add me if you have Facebook you can search April McCracken I would love to be friends you have given me some hope while I have been so frustrated and feeling helpless.

awwww yeah i do have fb......i'm a bit slack tho :red
i'm Glynis Robson i have a piggie as my photo :))

I know what it's like when you're besides yourself with worry...... this forum has helped so many people over the years, me included!

You both seem to be very knowledgeable with guineas and illness what would you ladies do if you were in my position? Would you order the medicine and see if it works while waiting the 14 days or go back to the vet and request a second opinion? I read on the Guinea lynx where she had the scrapping done and it was missed so I'm afraid to put her through this again and I don't want to lose her.

ooooh this is a hard one April...... it is easy to self medicate piggies but really it's not always the best just in case you're wrong.....
It's Sunday night your time, if you can wait till one of our people who've been thru this come on i'm sure they'll advise :)
Poor little darling she must be uncomfortable too :...

April if you have any questions re her pregnancy whee have a pregnancy section, there's quite a few members on here that can help you both :)

What about vet wrap would this be helpful or would it made the sores worse? Trying to find something to protect her from making them worse has anyone used this on sores on the body or is this for surgeries only?

How do I post pictures on here so that it maybe be quicker to figure out what's going on with my piggy?

Ok, first things first - calm down, everything's going to be fine :)

Pregnant guinea's are prone to hormonal fungal (well, that's what I call it...not sure on the proper term). But essential it's just fungal which they get when they're pregnant, by the time the babies are born, or are leaving mum, depending on how soon she got it into the pregnancy, it clears up.

Don't use Ivermectin with a pregnant sow, it's very strong and should only be used if it's a case of life or death. The best thing to use until the babies are 4 weeks old is fungal creams, such as Daktarin, Canestan - anything for athlete's foot. Put the creams on twice a day until the sores are gone.

Good luck :))

I would go back to the vet, that seems to be a ridiculous amount of time to wait.

Once again can I advise members against advising others to self-medicate when they can't actually see the animal for themselves. Add to which, some athlete's foot creams are steroidal (not to mention different in different countries) and these are NOT suitable for guinea pigs, let alone pregnant ones.

Well she is still scratching a little but I talked to Chrissie in several emails and pure aloe vera is helping to heal her skin still waiting on the stupid vet to call back... Hates playing the waiting game........
