hi i have found out my piggy is pregnant and maybe another pig of mine could be pregnant ( see the latest forum talk on the pregnancy section there you will find Pebbles and her story but she is 700g and definitely pregnant here for the problem .

so my mum didnt want pebbles to be pregnant or think she was pregnant i didn't want her to be pregnant but i knew she was the man we bought my girls from must of mis sexed them as he had 35 babies around the same time
the thing is my girls are outside with a £150 hutch that my mum bought i don't have a indoor cage to put pebbles in and i dont have alot of money to go around and spend a £50 cage as i have spent it on the food and that so i was thinking of a c and c cage ..... £40 ?

obviously as soon as the pups are older i will put them outside as my parents mainly my dad doesn't want them living inside he doesnt know pebbles is pregnant he will go MAD it took me five years to get the girls

i also have cats and they are aloud in my room so i need something with a roof something that is around £25 30 at the max something i can just go out tomorrow and buy not order online since i don't know when these pups are going to be born something big but not huge as my rooms really small i was thinking a card board box and find something to put on top i don't know i need this asap

PLEASE REPLY !! get your thinking caps on!

sorry when i meant cardboard box i meant the big boxes the storage boxes drill tons of big holes on the lid for breathing space i cant think of anything else i have 2 big storage boxes i don't know there is also cheap ones the same on a corner shop near me i will have a look tomorrow any other ideas

no my mums friend has a huge cage which wont fit in my room but my hair dresser has a client who bred pigs : ( but she doesnt do it any more so we are going to see if she has any left over cages runs for us ill look on zooplus though :)

I would be wary of mixing dog crates and babies (the same goes for C&C grids) - the little one can easily get their head stuck. I had to protect my C&C grids with extra correx until my surprise baby was too big to be in danger anymore.

Would it be possible to have a look at free-ads for second hand cages?

Zooplus is the cheapest place for new cages. This 120cm one is currently on discount for £34.90. I use mine as hospital/emergency/foster cage. It is safe for babies and would be big enough until separation time. http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/hutches_cages/guinea_pig_cages/120_cm_cages/83034

shes just had the pups and ive blocked off the ramp so teddy and bubbles has downstairs and pebbles and the two pups has the upstairs

I hope that all is well with mum and pups. please make sure that the pups are drinking within a day and that mum is licking their bums to stimulate the digestion. It takes about a couple of days for the guts to start working and process the milk; only then will they start putting on weight. As soon as you are sure that they are fine, you can reunite them, provided that Pebbles is fine with it. make sure that the babies cannot fall down the ramp, though!

Please weigh mum and babies daily to see that they are OK. If both babies are sturggling to put on weight, it is likely that something is wrong with mum. Keep an eye on mum's bits re. womb infection and her nipples re. mastitis - a sign of the latter is a refusal/discomfort when the babies try to suckle. Also seek veterinary care quickly if mum is losing 50g and more in a very short period. There may be a bit of blood in the first 24 hours, but it should not be more than a teaspoon and it shouldn't be a trickle of fresh blood. In either case, you need to see a vet.

The babies should ideally be 70-100g at birth.

You can lift the restriction on portions for the nursing period as pretty much everything mum is eating is going straight towards the milk bar. please still feed increased vitamin C, calcium and protein.

sorry ive read it all i just wondered when i could tell their gender as I'm aloud to keep them both and its a boy neuter them

Please weigh them daily; babies can go downhill very quickly - the earlier you catch problems the better their chances. You can reunite the group as long as mum is OK. Aunties are usually very kind and helpful in bringing up babies, but some mums can be very protective of their babies. ;)

You can try to sex them anytime. some babies are bovious right from the start. with others you have to wait a couple of weeks until things bcome clearer. You are welcome to post pictures of the bits on here over the course of the next two weeks for a second opinion, the clearer the better. ideally you face the babies towards a good source of light or even better, have somebody else take the picture!

You will need to separate any male pups at three weeks of age, unless they hit 250g several days before cut off age (in that case, they need to be separated at 250g) or they are still 200g or less at the crucial date; in that case, they can stay on for another week or until they hit 250g - whichever comes first.

Please weigh mum as well as the pups - if she falls ill, the pups will suffer as well while they are still nursing. She is likely to lose a little bit of weigh over the course of the nursing period, but it should be very gradual and never a lot at once. ;)

She won't leave them anyway once they are bonded! :)
I had never any problems with picking up any babies of mine. Just handle them only for a very short time and try to put them back as soon as mummy is looking for them and getting upset.
