I know I must clean and disinfect hutch, toys and run before the two pigs meet each other.
And I know they must be introduced on nuteral territory, but has anyone got any tips?
I'm bringing a rescue baby home tomorrow x
Thank you

I recently introduced my two boys - never had any experience prior to this so was v. nervous. I made sure there were a lot of places for them to hide. One was much smaller than the other so I made places only he could get to if things were awry. Put a big heap of hay in the middle on a blanket and cut up a heap of lettuce, surrounded the area with C&C grids so they couldn't make a break for it and made sure that I had nothing else to do that evening so I could watch them. Luckily it went well.
I had read a lot of the articles on here first though so I was thoroughly prepared for the worst.

Pretty much as @MishImpossible has said above. Also, just make sure that hideys have 2 exits so that one cannot trap the other and that one can escape if necessary. I also ensure that there is one hidey per piggy plus one extra so there is plenty of places to hide. It's nerve wracking, I know. Also, best to have a towel on hand as if they did kick off you would want something to throw over them -don't just put your hand in as those teeth are very sharp. Hope all goes well

Thank you very much! X I really appreciate it!
I hope all goes well! Harvey is very outgoing but harmless, so hopefully it goes as well as it did the previous two times x
Poor Harvey three partners in his lifetime and now a fourth! X

Look forward to hearing the reports (and seeing pics). Harvey sounds like a sweetie. Hope he enjoys his next dating session.

if it is a youngster you are introducing older boars are usually pretty tolerant with them. I have two bad tempered sows in two different groups because they hate each other but both will accept babies no bother. Good luck.If it is a rescue could you not introduce them at the rescue with the rescuers help so you know they are going to be ok? The rescues i got the lady stayed with me luckily as the first two she wouldnt accept but accepted babies no problem.

Thanks everyone, harvey is a sweetie!
x It's very difficult for me to be able to introduce them at the rescue, as the woman has 20+ females and only one male! So might not be a good idea x
I have been researching for the last three or four hours, and I think I know what to do now.
I was told I could bring him back if it doesn't go to plan! X

I'm introducing a two year old male who recently lost his partner, to my three year old x

When i introduced my piggies for the first time, I was so nervous incase they didnt get along, especially as I work quite a lot so I was worried they would have a falling out while I was at work.
I introduced them in a seperate cage which had a divider in the middle so they could see each other but not touch and they sniffed each other through the bars.
Then after a couple of days like that I introduced them on my living room floor and they have never had any issues, they had a little sniff round eachother, they were a bit nervous at first but now they get along great, cant imagine them apart! I gave them a plate of veggies to distract them so they focused on the food rather than the strange other pig in the room lol
Good luck with yours :)

That is a brilliant idea! X thank you lots and I'm glad it worked out well for you! X
