Hi so mike was neutered on thursday and so far, so good. He is eating, peeing, pooping and moving well.

The wound looks good with no sign of bleeding, oozing or infection BUT just today we have noticed mike at his wound site (quite what he is doing down there is hard to tell!)

So far, we've distracted him by putting heaps of grass in the cage. He wasn't sent home with any kind of collar and i read somewhere online that collars aren't good anyway for pigs as it prevents them eating the caecotrophes.

I also saw that preparation H can be helpful in healing and discouraging them from picking.

I haven't got that in the house but i do have the boots own brand equivalent.

Would it be ok to try do you think?

Any other ideas as to how i can stop him picking? We're in all day today so i can keep an eye but worried about tonight.

He is still on loxicom 0.1ml once a day but nothing else.

Thanks

I think the aim of prep h is to numb the area as it contains a mild anaesthetic.. If the area isn't red, i highly doubt its sore or itchy so numbing it wont really stop him from going near it.

Try to distract him best you can, keep changin up his hays and forages and add in some new toys and chews to keep him occupied.

All sounds positive that its healing well so far though x

Sorry Gizzy - I really don't think you should be recommending Intrasite for this sort of wound .

The info on the manufacturers website explains what dort of wounds it is for ....

INTRASITE Gel Hydrogel Wound Dressing | Smith & Nephew - US Professional

Basically, Intrasite is for sloughy wounds as works by making the slough wetter.

My vet John Dines dale (vet with small animals for 35years) is the one who recommends it as
it makes the scin supple and reduces the stitches pulling
