Wasn't sure where to post this.

For whatever reason the vet didn't give us a sheet or let us know what we needed to use as bedding, and blah, blah. Going to call them tomorrow but I want to see what you all say, so I can choose what's best for Shotzie and be prepared.

We're taking him Tuesday morning and staying in the big city until he's ready to come home (so we can make just one hour and a half round trip instead of 2) and I would like to be prepared with supplies by Monday night.

I have read towels are most commonly used but how often do they need changing? I'll need to stay stocked up, because I don't have a washer/dryer (do my laundry at Mom's 3 miles away). He's going to be in one of those SuperPet cages that are on the small side so he doesn't have to do much moving. Is there anything else I should have on hand?

Will also ask if they're going to prescribe pain meds (silly me forgot to ask at his initial appt) the estimate says "Misc. Pharmaceuticals", but I assume antibiotics will be prescribed as well.

If the info is on here somewhere, please direct me to it...sometimes I tend to over look things.

Thanks,

Marie

I usually bed my newly neutered piggies on clean dry towels for a couple of days, obviously changing the towels daily.

Apart from that I usually let them settle back into their normal routine as soon as possible. If it is cold, then I keep them indoors during the night. Usually they recover very quickly and are back to their normal selves within a few days.

Just check that he is eating, drinking and weeing as soon as you get him home. Hope all goes well.

Thanks! He's an indoor piggy anyway. I wasn't sure how much bleeding could possibly occur and if the towels needed to be changed say every 4 hours or so, for example...like on a timetable.

I used fleeces in mine and seemed to work well. Have been changing them every-other day. I also have justed shreaded paper bedding from P@H for their litter trays instead of hay so they don't get bits poked into them!

Make sure you get a hay rack if you don't have one as hay on the floor may poke their sore bits!

I had no bleeding from george and just a few spots from tiger where he had nibbled himself a bit. They had painkillers at vets but nothing afterwards when they got home and seemed ok with that & no antibiotics!

Also remember to check them daily for any sign of infection in the wounds etc...

Thanks! Did your's seem to have issues reaching it? I'll pick one up, seeing as we have from about 7.30AM until 3 or 4PM when we have to get him and there are several pet stores in the area.

Why are you neutering him?

Because we have 5 girls and until 2 weeks ago, no other boys. I am skittish that Rory and Shotzie will bond because they are only 2 months apart and with all the girls in the house I am sure they would have a falling out over them if we tried. We've gone through a very long process to get to this surgery appointment on Tuesday.

My vet did blood work on Shotzie and I know now that this was to check and see if he had any underlying issues with kidneys and other organs that would be a problem with the anesthesia. Though I know nothing is 100% I have faith that he's in very good hands, and I am prepared to deal with it if something goes awry.

I know you have had a rough go, and understand that you would question. ;)

Thanks! I will get one of those! Probably pick up the hay cube/cake things too.

Can you post a link of what you used as litter? If it's not too much trouble. We don't have P@H here in the states and he does use a litter box but I put hay in and around it, so anything to keep the hay out of his wound. ;)

Typically it is not on the website - it is just really fine shreaded recycled paper. anything that isn't dusty or like hay which could poke them should be fine.

Thanks! I just checked the estimate and they are using Isoflurane anesthesia, which Guinea Lynx says is safe.

And it says "Complementary Nail Trim" :(|) :)) I was dreading doing his :p

Vet just called to confirm the appointment. Said to not withhold food & water (wasn't going to anyway :)) ). Asked what bedding to use while he's recovering and they said "paper". :{

Going to ask them again in the morning what exactly they are talking about and if they can show me when we drop him off.
