Hi everyone,

Our piggies have just been treated for hay mites and wondered if anyone uses prevenative mite treatments? If you do what do you use?
Thanks 😊

We do not recommend the use of any preventative treatments.
Preventative treatments should not be used as they can lead to resistance (which we are seeing some cases of) meaning treating an active infestation can become and is becoming harder.

You should only treat if you have a diagnosed case and then you need to use a course of vet strength treatment - pet shop products are too low dosed to fully deal with a diagnosed infestation (we often see mites return where pet shop products have been used)

Thank you
I did think about shop brought products. It took a good strong dose to get rid of them in the first place because my previous vet didnt treat properly so ended up moving vets

That’s interesting …….my Vet couldn’t get hold of the normal treatment for hay mites and suggested one from a pet shop or off Amazon
I used it ( from Amazon) but I’m not convinced it’s worked I’m closely monitoring them but I’m thinking of going elsewhere ……
