Princess Charolette

She stopped eating, drinking and playing with her best friend, Freddy my dog and now he's depressed. I took her to the vet, did X-rays and found out she has a bad heart and pneumonia. She's been there since yesterday and I think the vet is just keeping her there for money or she hasn't a clue what's going on? Do Guinea Pig's recover from a heart problem without surgery? So far, it's costing me $2300 and $525 per day that she's there.

Holy cow! I am sorry! I know they can recover from pneumonia. I don't know anything about heart problems! I would like to think that medication might help the heart, but don't know for sure! Hopefully someone more experienced will chime in with some positive feedback. You are doing everything you can for your piggy. Have they said how she is doing? Are they syringe feeding her or making sure she doesn't have bloat/GI stasis? There is so much information on this forum. You can do a search and I bet you may find some answers! I will be praying for you and your piggy and dog!

I did a quick search and it does seem like medication is the treatment. Do you have another vet for a possible second opinion? Never hurts if you have doubts.

I see you are in California, is the LA guinea pig rescue near you? Maybe you could talk to them or take her there so they could look at her and give you some advice. They would probably know of the best vet to use too.

Have you looked on guinea lynx for a vet? There may be one near you that’s experienced with Guinea pigs.I have no experience of heart problems so I’ll tag @helen105281
