Don't think Princess is quite right, she started off by going around in very small circles yesterday so thought maybe because in cage - so set up run and still did them.
Today she fell over a few times and thinking back she has been less steady on her feet (back ones more). So was a bit worried did the WORST thing you can and googled it and came up with all sorts of horrors @) So then did the SENSIBLE thing and found local vet and called up - did have to explain Princess (who I refer to as her/she etc) is a him etc (lovely embarrasing conversation) - also then explained had looked everything up on google and I KNOW it is not a good idea.
So she is booked in tomorrow - having googled a lot of people say middle ear infection and she does scratch ears more than he does.
SO will see tomorrow - daft I know and yes we only got them on saturday but have been so worried - I have took a short (4 and half min) video on my camera to show them as animals never do things at the vets!

On a positive note Pirate managed to get up to 2nd (full) level today with the help of a tube attatched to the ramp I was like a proud little mummy - I know he also got about 3/4 of the way down but tube moved and got wedged so went back up. I have since attached tube to pipe a bit better! I think he is still up there so have put food/drink on that level as well.
Also my vet bed stuff arrived today (HOW soft is that stuff!) so later when they are out will be sorting that all out. I did let them have a run on it earlier (and apart from partly falling over on it but she has been doing that in cage too) and they seemed to like it enough to poo on it!

Finger's crossed for Princess, hope he's okay, I'd try and reschedule a vets appointment for today if you can, if it's an infection you want to get treatment started a.s.a.p as guinea pigs can go downhill VERY quickly.
Sorry, not trying to alarm you, would rather spare you any avoidable heartache. Is your vet experienced with guinea pigs?

I cant get there today I have all the children home from pre-school so just not an option as my husband has already gone to work :(
I spoke to the lady who said they have a couple of vets who are specialised in small animals. I had a good look on their site so fingers crossed Will update tomorrow I have a morning appointment x Thanks

Will just say he is quite happily still wandering around - and had a good walk around when I set run up earlier - still also eating well so fingers crossed thanks for replys x

Has anyone had anything similar?

fingers crossed for tomorrow then, to a very confused boy called Princess....xx

Thanks well I have boy/girl twins who choose their names before we went to get them - luckily no one will ever tell her her guinea pig is a boy (she would be mortified).

Princess has quietly passed on. Apparently she was blind and deaf and had neurological problems he said would have kept going for few weeks but best to let her sleep. I hated to see her keep falling over - he checked for ear infection etc but nothing.
Am currently very upset and NO idea what am supposed to tell my daughter or and I hate to say this and be so cowardly wether to tell her or if we get one similar in colourings. But (and this probably sound heartless) I want to get them another one soon so that pirate does not get lonely as I know very unfair to keep them alone.
Anyway am now going to go and work on pulling myself together before pre-school pick up currently not doing so well on that front. Thank you all for replies may not be on for a bit so please dont think I am ignoring anyone .
(oh and this was a vet who specialises in small animals) x

So sorry to hear your sad news. It's worth trying boar dating at a reputable rescue for Pirate, he can find a friend who he gets on with rather than having one chosen for him ( which is always risky because they won't always get on with a pig they haven't chosen themselves )and any prospective partners will have been health checked and quarantined beforehand so you don't have any unwelcome surprises.
It's probably best to be honest with your daughter about what happened, I know it's hard telling young children about the death of a pet but they usually cope with it a lot better than us adults.
x

Well we took pirate back to my friends who had sorted us a few out who were in the same breed and we popped them in together for a bit and they seemed to get on fine. I was so pleased so we brought her (him!) home. My daughter just turned round when I got her out and said oh look mummy her hair has changed just like Chloe our cousin (she was born with dark hair and it has gone light and curly). She was completely accepting so I said nothing. I was going to explain she had had to go home as she is a very overly sensitive child who has just got over being ill and I could not do that to her. So we are now welcoming princess who is getting on really well - and her abilities to climb, reach up on hind legs etc just makes me realise quite how poorly our other guinea pig was. It was a very hard day but I am glad she did not suffer and I for one could not have seen her continue to fall/slip over. I am just glad we had them out in their run and observed them enough to have noticed. Thank you all for your kind support x

So sorry to hear your sad news, glad you have found another go be with Pirate I'm sure there gonna be very happy together, you did the right thing getting another.
