my princess Penny has an eye ulcer. I took her to the vet and he gave her eye drops and antibiotics. I’m just so scared because this same issue happened to my other piggy and he passed on. What more can I do for her? Please please help 😞

you have done the right thing in getting the antibiotic eye drops. Were you also given pain relief for her? Hay pokes and eye ulcers are very common and in themselves are not fatal, so please don’t worry about that. Has the vet asked to see her again for a follow up? It can sometimes be helpful to have some lubrication to the eye as it can help with healing, did the vet offer such advice?
There is nothing more you can do though. The drops work well and it should be looking better in a couple of days. Both of my boys have had hay poke injuries and within five days they were much better.

I've had 2 piggies with an ulcer on their eye and both recovered well with the eye drops. Is penny on any painkillers? x

The eye drops have pain medication in them per my vet. I just feel so bad she looks like she’s in a ton of pain.

Yes I am taking her in next Sunday for a follow up. Her eye drops have pain meds. What lubricants do you recommend? I think he said something about gent teal? Is that a lubricant? Thanks!

What eye drops were you prescribed?
Is she eating properly? If she appears to be in pain then you ought to weigh her regularly (daily) to check that she is still maintaining her weight.

Aw, sending healing vibes for poor little Penny and a hug for you, it’s awful when your pets are poorly, such a worry x

I’m not sure the exact type. She’s been eating and no abnormal behavior.

Just an update: Her eye is still cloudy but the meds seem to be working. She looks like she’s in less pain. Eating and drinking normal. I’m hoping her eye will clear up soon!
