Just wondering, I have read a lot on this forum about giving piggies on anti biotic pro-biotics. Do I need to buy on specially for piggies or can I just buy one from the supermarket and can anyone recommend me a brand, my old man Sweep has just finished a course of Baytril and it seems to of upset his tummy somewhat.

Thanks

I use Bio Lapis - you can get that at Thistle cavies - or Protexin. They seem to prefer Protexin, and I think it is more effective with diarrhoea.

Protexin are the company that make Bio-Lapis so they're the same thing? I prefer Bio-Lapis over anything else I've tried and it's what my vet recommends.

maisy has just had diorrhea whilst on antibiotics, the vet should of given you some probiotics really. i had to suggest that i had some to my vet, you'd think they'd know.
it isn't expensive so i'd suggest picking some up from your vets.i think mine cost me a couple of quid.

Ohhh. Roger used to give me Bio Lapis, but one day his partner suggested I tried Protexin Professional, and she said I would need less of it... not sure.

Have been to the vets and got some Bio Lapsis and some Kaolin for him so hopefully all will now be well!

Ah right. I would go for the Bio-Lapis as it's formulated for small herbivores. Professional is a general probiotic for everything.

I prefer Fibreplex. It got 7 year old Bailey through a bout of diahoerra and a course of antibiotics.

I don't know the bacteria count in Avipro I use it because its easy to buy in large amounts and does the job :)
