One of my guineas has soft loose droppings. She has been to the vet who cannot find anything wrong but thinks she is 'gassy' as her stomach feels a bit bloated. She is lively and bright in herself and eating well. I suspect it may have been that she wasn't used to the greens she now gets. I'm going to experiment with the foods a bit, try her on less variety. The vet did give her some pro-biotics which did seem to help to start with but didn't seem to the last time I tried her on a course. He said that they can have them all the time. He didn't seem to think it bad enough to do any further tests and as she's so bright in herself I haven't furthered it. She had been through a lot of stress and I just wanted to settle her. The problem is mainly that she sits in them and I'm worried she'll get a sore bottom so I've been bathing her and putting a tiny bit of vaseline on to protect her.
Does anyone use them all the time and is there anywhere else apart from the vets that you can get them. Or know of an alternative? I've read that, I think it was vegetable oil can be given which is supposed to lessen gas but I need to find that info again to check it exactly. Also in the Peter Gurney book it says about giving small doses of kaolin. Can you buy this on its own without the morphine?
I'm not going to try all of this at once obviously! But I've never had a guinea with loose droppings before.
