Does any put this in their Guinea Pigs water? A friend of mine does and another friend says it's not really much use! I don't see my Piggies drink much so I suppose it wouldn't be much benefit putting it in the water, it is rather expensive and wonder if it's just another thing pets at home want you to buy, the store told me they put it in all their animals water.

Just another money spinner, a good selection of fruit and veg will supply the piggies with everything in those powders. Technically they'd also get more vitamins ect as they haven't been diluted at all. We recently had a discussion about this on a hamster forum i use as a lady said after she started using it her hamster barely drank at all.

All that that putting vitamin C in your bottle does is making it go green and yucky in record time!

A good mix of fresh veg takes care of the vitamin intake very nicely indeed!

Dito with Nutmeg for me. As lots of piggies come to me with vit c deficiency and scurvy I have to get them vit c urgently but once they start eating veg I stop it because it is totally uneccessary and just costs money and turns your water crappy xx

The only timer we have used a pro-biotic was when prescribed by our vet to be used alongside Baytril as they can get quite bad tummies from Baytril. We found it didn't affect the amount drunk and definitely helped with the stomach flora (in complete contrast to the first time we used Baytril without the pro-biotic).
So I wouldn't bother unless you're giving your piggy an antibiotic.

It's not a waste of money, it's very useful for pigs who are ailing, pregnant or recovering from an illness. It can also be helpful in slowing down the build up of impacted poop in older boars. Obviously not all pigs will need it, but it has it's uses, I keep it in my shed :)

I'm confused as usual. Sorry I was talking about vit c. I have found pro biotics useful when used alongside antibiotics. As Tracy says, not a waste of money. If used appropriately rather than daily, both can be very helpful. xx

thanks everyone.. shall carry on the way I am and not use it, will only get some should I need it for any reason.

the pro c probiotic is sold by P@H it is both vit c & probiotic combined (or so I am led to believe)
I used it whilst giving my pigs antibiotics but I syringed fed it to them to ensure they got enough and didn't put it in the water bottles as I've heard the taste can put them off drinking when they need to!

I too use this; My old boy gets a bottle around once a month & i give it to any boys who suffer with impaction; it's the only thing i've found that has appeared to help :)

I always have a tub of it in the cupboard

It can put them off Briony, it's dependant on the pig, thankfully mine love it but i did used to give a bottle of water too just incase they didn't like it. Once i knew who did & who didn't i could/can give it accordingly :)
