Hi

Does anyone know if it is ok for my guinea pig to go outside on the grass if she has IC? Previously when she went out, her bottom did seem wetter than if I’d left her in. She is doing so well at the moment, I don’t want to set her back by putting her outside if others have found this exasperates the IC. Equally if it generally has no bad effect, I’m sure she would enjoy going out.

Many thanks.

Hi! She can go outside, but as grass is not absorbent will end up with a soggy bottom in need of a bum bath with baby warm water afterwards. Make sure that any ground is warm and dry to your bare feet for 5 minutes; her immune system is somewhat lowered and she is more at risk of picking up issues like UTI or URI.

Please check for fly strike (flesh eating maggots) when bringing in piggies that have blood in their urine, keeping in mind that seemingly clear urine can contain a substantial amount of blood.
People tend to focus on the deep red phorphyrine colouring at the onset of an acute phase without being aware that intense red urine can test free of blood while clear urine can test very high - believe me, I have got all those t-shirts!
Fly Strike

If in any doubt, don't put her out.
