Probable mites... Group help!

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't been around for a while. I hope all of your piggies are well.

Although mine are still a happy little group, unfortunatley, it seems they may have contracted mites :(

Everyone had a bath today and it was first noticed on Hettie. She had a tiny wound in the middle of her back which I thought could be a little bite as she has been asserting herself recently now she's getting bigger so I didn't really think too much of it...

However, it was on Boris I noticed it most :( He also has a couple of tiny scabs on his back and when he was wet his hair appears to be quite thin. When shampooing, I noticed his hair was coming out easily in clumps with what looks like skin flakes at the botom of the shaft.

Needless to say we'll be off to the vets tomorrow, although how much they'll be help I'm not sure...

Anyway, my main worry now is do I need to split these two from the other girls. And if so, how many problems is it likely to cause when re-introdcuing them (they are two of six )? Hettie is now about 6 months old and I know Pippa would never back down and let her take charge.

Arrgh! I don't know what to do for the best! I don't want the other girls to potentially get sick (or is it too late?!) but I don't want and fall-outs as I couldn't keep them seperate

p.s. if anyone knows of an awesome vet in the Bolton/North Manchester area I'd be very grateful for their details

That's my gut feeling. I figure if it is mites and Hettie and Boris have it then there's a good chance the others do too already :...
 
I wouldn't split them either. If it's mites they'll all need treating and the bedding changed at the same time or unfortunately they will reinfect each other.

I'm kinda hopeful it's NOT mites to be honest, but all things are pointing that way from what I'm reading :(

Hettie is a bit whingy but otherwise her usual self but I know Boris is not happy. He's grumpy with the girls and nipped at me this afternoon. Both of these are completely out of character as he is usually super chilled out.

My poor little guy :(

Boris' back looked pretty red today and as soon as she saw him the vet agreed that it's mites 8...

Both he and Hettie have had an injection and need to go back in 10 days for a second, then possibly a third. The vet seemed to think that the other girls *may* be okay and not end up getting mites too (finger's crossed!) but I will be watching them all like a hawk for the next couple of weeks.

Just glad I managed to catch it early and hopefully stop it spreading. Both are back in the pen with the others now and crashed out after their adventure today!
 
I know it is silly question but have * any pictures of this wound from mites ? maybe it is simillar to this what my piggy has ......

poor babys :(
 
Hi, it's not a silly question ;) but I don't.. I will try and get a couple tomorrow though and post them :)

Hettie's does look like a little bite, similar to your piggies first pic. Boris' looks more like a skin complaint with itchy looking skin though (if that makes sense!)
 
Hi good luck at the vets, hope its sorted soon:(

If the hair is easily tugged out and has flaky dandruff type stuff on the end it could be a fungal skin condition although your vet will tell you more:)
