my new piggie Ted, who is seven weeks old, has finally started to settle in, hes getting on well with J.J (they even share the same pigloo now :)) ) i've seen him drink, eat hay and veggies, but i haven't seen him eat any nuggets yet, i have the p@h nuggets and i'm wondering if they are a bit big for him to eat? as the title says its probably a stupid question mallethead rolleyes :p

My boys all ate P@H nuggets when they were young, although they tended to eat the nuggets more overnight when they'd cleared their veg bowls.

I remember when Spike was young he used his front teeth to break the nuggets in half and then he'd eat them. Could it be worth trying to break them up a bit?

It sounds like Ted is getting plenty of veg and hay, so maybe he's not eating them as he's happy with the fresh stuff.

Don't worry, we've all asked these questions!

Some young piggies are not eating everything. It should come in time, latest when the "I want what you've got" reflex kicks in. Usually the problem is rather with piggies not being used to veg. Just keep on offering pellets.

As long as you feed a good mix of veg that includes some high vitamin C veg like peppers, broccoli or parsley there is no problem at all with not eating pellets. Many people on the continent don't feed pellets and still have completely healthy guinea pigs living to a ripe old age.

The majority of the daily intake should be up to 80% hay; veg and pellets are actually only a small - if vital - part of the diet.

As long as they are gaining and maintaining weight they should be fine. When I first got my piggies, I never saw them drink. The water level in the bottle was going down but I never saw them drink...

Hi,
My boys don't like the nuggets, they won't touch them, our girls never used to like them either, all mine have the muesli as they wont et anything else except their veggies, so i'd rather have them waste food than not eat it at all.

Amy

thanks for the replies, i guess i'm just worrying over nothing i've weighed him and hes 468g, he 6 weeks and 2 days old will just keep an eye on him, he seems to be obsessed with pepper at the moment he even pinched some off J.J last night :)) rolleyes
