Stupid question but i thought it best to ask, one of my piggies is currently on a course of anti biotics for a uri, his cage mates fine and been checked over by the vet and been given a full bill of health. I planned to put the probiotic in the water bottle but would that be ok for his cage mate to drink still?

I dont see why not personally as they’re not really a medical thing more of a supplement as far as i’m aware :)

Make sure your piggies are still all drinking a similar amount if not add more wattery veg to their diet as sometimes the water can change taste wise and put them off drinking as much :)

Don’t worry i always ask questions, especially when it comes to my own pet. I think its part of the job as guinea pig slave to double check everything even when you think you know the answer haha.

I wouldn't put it in the water bottle myself in case it puts them off drinking it from the bottle plus you have no way of knowing how much he's had. I give Bio-Lapis by syringe which my pigs happily drink through the cage bars & seem to enjoy. That way I know how much they've had.

Well i have been debating on syringing him some water an hour or so after giving him the antibiotic to make sure he is getting some

I give 5ml Bio-Lapis about 1.5 to 2 hours after ABs & another 1 or 2 times during the day depending on if the ABs are once or twice daily.

I find that piggies drink less water when there are additives of any kind, they tend to go off and you can't control the intake. The most effective way for meds and supplements is syringing - then you know exactly what goes in!

I'm going to syringe feed it after doing a bit of research as that way i know hes getting some at regular intervals :) I knew asking on here was a good idea :))

When giving one of my girls antibiotics i just sprinkled some on a bit of pepper or cucumber and she'd eat it up.
