Hi, new to forum and first time guinea pig owner (first ever pets). My piggies; Zero and Gizmo are both on Baytril for a URI. After some elpful advice i have got them both pro C probiotics. I have syringed 2ml of the probiotics formula, and was wondering if that was right? The bottle says 5ml formula to 200g water so i did 1ml formula to 40g water. After 2ml each they didnt take anymore from the syringed and got fed up. I gave them this 3 hours after their antibiotics. They also have vit c drops on their nuggets - think nuggets have slight vit c in them too. Is it possible for you give your pig too much vitamin C? Don't want to harm my piggies. Thank you x *nuggets: Selective (supreme science) *Guinea pig vitamin solution, extra vit.C (Beaphar) *Pro C Probiotic (Vetark)

Have you got your ml and grams backwards? I don't have a pot to hand to check. You just need to give as much as they will take throughout the day.

I don't think you necessarily need to give vitamin c if using Pro C as that has it in it too though I am unsure on the amount.

I agree with the grams and mls backwards as above.

There is around an average 1g vit C per 0.5-1g of pellets so providing they are eating 10-20g (for a kg piggie) then no need to worry about topping up vitamin C levels to be honest, especially if you are feeding fresh veg too. You can't really overdose on vitamin C as the body will just excrete what it doesnt need but still no reason to overload them. Hope they are feeling better soon.

x.

*sorry i meant 1ml to 40 ml of water. If the plaster tape on my piggies leg to stop him biting stitch on toe is making my piggies leg red and look sore is there anything that will sooth it? Like a cream ?
Thank you x

To the above comment i posted. Went to the vets and asked what they would suggest for this red skin where the plaster tape is pulling and she suggested Tea Tree skin care cream 2 x daily. xx

He fell from about my hip height i was washing him and he has never before jumped out of the washing bowl but this time he did and then jumped from the dinning room table and when I checked him over while giving him his antibiotics for URI I saw his middle toe was pointing towards the ceiling. So I took him the vets and she stitched it down to his paw with one stitch as all bandages she tried came off. She then covered it with cello tape and plaster tape. That was Wednesday. I checked him today and the top of the plater tape on his leg must be rubbing or pulling the hair so I have put on some of the tea tree cream for guinea pigs x
