Hello, I have just noticed my guinea pigs bum is matted and sticky I have tried washing it in just warm water but I can't see it doing anything. A bit odd but I can't even see his bum hole. I bred guinea pigs as a child but I've never seen this. Anyone know what this is and what I can do? Thanks

Hi and welcome

I would recommend to have it seen by a vet. It is not in the right location for an overactive the grease gland, as it is not centrally sited by the looks of it. it could be a burst cyst, but it is impossible to tell from your picture.

PS: I would like to make you are aware that we are a strictly non-breeding and non-prize showing pro-rescue pet owners forum. It would be good if you please refrained from mentioning breeding, as I could raise sensibilities.

I would agree and recommend a vets visit asap. Whereabouts are you located? We may be able to advise a good vet if you don't have one

Welcome to the forum by the way ,lovely to have you here

Hi and welcome to the forum. As Wiebke said its not quite in the right area for the grease gland and I would also like to add that it is most definitely not the bum hole too :) the hole is underneath the piggy at the back end so I would definitely recommend a vet trip

Take your piggie to the vets it doesn't look good probably a burst cyst like Wiebke said.
