I tried posting this on an already-exsistent thread, but no ones answered. I just switched for Gerty Guinea/pet shop mix to Burgess supa excel. At first I tried giving them it gradually, but they dint touch it. Now I've gone cold turkey and am just giving them it, but they still havent touched it. I know I should be persistent and theyll eat it eventually, but I feel likeI'm starving them and every time I just give them theyre old food. Help!

Just stick with it - it's a bit like having fed a child chicken nuggets and chips all their life and all of a sudden wanting them to eat a plate of cabbage. ;D

What's most important is that they have a variety of veg daily and unlimited good quality hay.

Do you have any Gerty left? You could try mixing it in with the Burgess food, gradually reducing the amount of Gerty mixed in unti they get used to the Burgess and see if that works.. failing that, the Tesco purple bag guinea pig food seems to have a lot of fans.

Sorry can't be of more help :)

Before I switched I was kind of giving them either Gerty, Teco or pett shop mix, which they seemed to like but always left about half of it because they didnt like it. I've aleadt tried doing it gradually, and theyre just acting as if its another part of the mix that they dont like. I'm just soooo terrified I'll accidently starve them to death, and it would be all my fault.... :'(

Oh no, try not to worry - mine pick at their muesli food too, they never eat the pellets which is so annoying because it's the best bit for them! daftscotslass is so right - veg and lots of hay are the most important thing.

Hi Rachey I read the diet is 80% Hay 15% veggies and 5% dried or pellet so don't worry you won't starve them. If you can mix a bit then I would, they will eat it eventually.

Good luck!

They won't starve Rachey but it is hard when you give them the pellets & they look up at you hoping for something tasty! :-\

I switched to this food from Gerty about three or four months ago, just adding alittle Gerty to it but Murran wouldn't touch it! Now Gilbert is living with Murran I have noticed it gets eaten! I think neither of them like the thought of one of them getting something the other is missing out on! I still add a tiny bit of Gerty but I have noticed that all the Gerty gets eaten now so the selective feeding has stopped. :)

It just takes along time with some pigs but with all the hay & veggies they eat its not too important so don't worry :)

Well thats good cause they always have a good stock of hay and I've increased their vewg too twice a day! I'll try mixing in a bit of Gerty but for the next few days it doesnt matter cause my piggies are filling up on grass while the sunshine allows them too! :)

Don't worry, I'm pretty sure that pellets aren't THAT important, of course they're helpful but aslong as they're get unlimited hay and fresh veg daily they will be fine :)

Thats what I would say too keep on giving the pellets they all like them in the end ;) All my piggies were on muslie type food before they came to me and their all on excell pellets now ;) I change them over very slowly takes me six weeks ;)
