Hi all. I have an older male skinny pig, roughly 6 years old (he’s a rescue) so not totally sure.
For the past few months he has had very runny poos, very on the verge of being diarrhoea. However, the weird part is that one day his poos will be normal, then two days later they return to diarrhoea. We have tried cutting out all different things in his diet to see if this is the cause, but it still remains the same. We are also aware this is often a dietary issue and so we have been watching this carefully and it does not seem to be a problem.
Thinking it’s aging rectal muscles, but does anyone else have any idea?

Just found out, it’s not called diarrhoea but rather soft poos that have texture still.

Hello I’m not that experienced but hopefully someone who is will be along soon.
I know that poo output is 2 days behind and soft poos are related to too much veggie intake
It’s usually recommended to cut out veggies til poos return to normal and the very slowly reintroduce veggies.
I have a 6 year old furry piggy who does get a little impaction due to his age and muscles not working as well.
Our Vet suggested Johnsons4Joints to aid his moving and anal muscles - since he has been on that (about 9 months now), his impaction has greatly reduced
I’d see your Vet and ask if that could help your piggy.
Good luck - I have a 3 year old skinny pig …they’re just lovely aren’t they ❤️

Impaction is hard clogs of poops which due to lack of muscle strength get stuck and can’t be expelled properly. This does not necessarily sound to be the issue your piggy has.

Your piggy sounds to be struggling with a digestive issue. Often it is that the system of an older piggy just isn’t as efficient and you have to adjust the diet to find what now suits.
You can remove all veg for as long as needed to settle the digestion, try giving a probiotic and increasing hay and fibre intake to see if that helps.
Make sure you are weighing him daily so you can be sure he is definitely eating enough hay because if his hay intake has lowered but veg intake remains the same then there can be an imbalance which can contribute to softer poops.
