Hi all, I have a one year old long haired piggy. I had him neutured a week ago as I want to get him a female companion. All has been fine since until this evening when he started jumping about and wouldn't sit still unless he was cuddling with me. He was very jittery which was unlike him, and he kept reaching down to his wound with his mouth. When I had a look, there was a little bleeding on both wounds and the knot and some of the string used to sew him up were sticking out..I think it keeps annoying/hurting him when he lies down. I feel like I want to trim the thread...is that a good idea? He's now calm but only cos he is cuddling with me. Help!

I think that before you do anything you should call your vet first and ask them what to do. Mabye you might consider putting something around your boars torso to prevent him from trying to bight his stitches.

@Lizz Page Were you given any pain relief? Sometimes they can chew the wound if it's sore or itching. Speak to your vet about it, they might want to see him again or give you some Metacam.

It the op was done a week ago, he should’ve healed by now. I’m guessing the stitches are dissolvable? I’ve found that often you’re left with some thread sticking out, as that won’t dissolve as it’s not inside the body. Eventually it will come away but you can just snip it. If you’re at all worried about the wounds then leave alone and see a vet.

I had similar with Donald and his abscess wound under his chin. He kept opening it up and I don't have the strongest stomach. I went back to the vets and got some metacam which I gave twice a day and that kept him comfortable enough to stop scratching it and it's all healed nicely now. However with anything like this it's worth double checking as abscesses are probably the most common post neuter complication
