Hello

Since Sophie's death on the first of July my remaining four piggies haven't been right at all. Previously to Sophie's death I had been considering rehoming them as I had quit my old job and the new one involved travelling further and having late nights etc. I didn't feel they would have much fun.

It turns out the new job isn't as difficult to get back from and the reality of giving them up really hit me once we lost Sophie so I had decided to keep them.

Over the summer they had mites twice and Henry was pulling the hair off of his back legs. :(

Henry has been a great concern of mine for a few months now. Living with 4 girls he constantly chased and harassed them - resulting in many squeaks and squeals. He lost a lot of weight and as I said pulled the hair out on his legs. The vet put this down to mites and eventually after three visits diabetes - no urine test just diagnosed on symptoms. Then we lost Sophie.

Once Sophie died the chasing has intensified - I was hoping it would settle down but it hasn't. The reason why this is in behaviour and not health is that I am considering splitting them up. Mum is home with them all day and she says the squeaks and squeals are getting worse and Henry is nearly also chasing someone. Honey hides constantly - she has lost what little confidence she had since Sophie died. Abbie and Lola are ok but harassed by Henry. He does according to Mum try to or actually bite Lola's bum....

I can put them in twos in two 120 cages. It will mean some shifting about but I think it will work.
however I don't how to split them.

Do I put Henry and Honey together? As they are similar in age and she is now less likely to attractive his advances?
Then Abs and Lola - the same age 1.5 can live together.
If Henry is diabetic then I can feed him fewer vegetables and adapt his diet more easily if he is living with Honey.

The only thing that worries me is Honey - she is a nervous wreck and I am not sure what her and Henry would be like. I feel like I am punishing the girls by splitting them up. Abbie and Lola and Honey get on well.

Plus would they still be able to meet for run time?

Opinions welcome.

I would do a little trial & error by putting Henry with Honey under supervision & try also with the other 2 girls. It may be that once he's with one he may settle down but there's no guarantees. It could be that the least likely pairing works. Good Luck.

When you lost Sophie the whole hieracy changed and Henry is trying to establish himself as boss. When a boy is in charge they do chase and mount a lot. My Mooli does this. It is just the way they are. If you decide to separate them they cannot come together for run time as they would no longer be bonded. What you describe is what happens in my herd.
