I have just been reading about Vet-bed and fleeces for lining GPs' cages. I have always used wood- chipping and also used to use hay but decided that too much was wasted and it was costing too much. I am interested in your opinions about using preofleece or vetbed. My husband has alergies and I think this would also cut out on his flare-ups. What do you think? any advice welcome...
 
Thanks, Mary. is it easy to cut to size? My cage is 100x50 cm (1/3 of VERY large) so if I get the offer for 2 I can get 6 beddings. Rotation then becomes easier...
 
Yes very easy to cut, where are you getting yours from? I only have 2 and tend to manage just fine.
 
I was going to order from the profleece website. They have a couple of offers.

I have a very busy job and can only manange to use the washing machine at the weekend, hence having more would be beneficial for me. Then if I find I have too many the spare pieces can go on the run! ;)

I use pro fleece with newspaper as a bottom layer and wood based cat litter inbetween to help soak up the piddle!
Pro fleece has worked well for me and I put it inside an old duvet cover before washing it. It certainly helps to keep my boys warm, and it stays dry so no wet cold feet!
 
Newgirl, that sounds good. I'd like to keep away from woody things as I think it makes my hubby's alergies worse. I had forgotten the advice about the duvet cover, ta!
 
What a good idea to put it in duvet cover before washing ,I usually brush it and I hate that job .Will try your idea tomorrow.I have a lot of piggies and they are all on vet bed indoors so lots of washing!

I do try and brush off all the bits of hay etc before putting it in the duvet cover - but you can never get it all off, and washing it inside the cover means all the bits don't get inside your w/m.
I'm also using it on top of the little cabin inside the hutch where they sleep as extra insulation for these cold nights!

I just use regular fleece. Prices vary depending on where you buy from and whether you buy plain or patterned. In the past I have bought 3 full cage sets of fleece (smallest cage was cage 2 level 2x4) for under £10. For the new cage I went with four different patterns - flying pigs, ducks, teddy bears and Winne the Pooh; overall it was £40, but it is a much bigger cage than before with fleeces not commonly found in UK!
