We recently got one of our young male piggies neutered, and all seemed well, exept today when I went to check on him, he has a prolapsed penis. He was neutered about a week ago now, but doesn't look swollen at all. Is there anything we can do to make him more comfey until we can get him to the vets first thing in the morning?

Hi Nicola, welcome to the forum.

By prolapsed penis, do you mean his penis is sticking out and will not fold back in as it usually does?

It it's not obviously sore or anything, give it a couple of hours, it may go back of its own accord. If it doesn't, try washing it.

It does look rather sore, hence going to the vets tomorrow. Is there anything I can put on it in the mean time to help keep it moisturised? I know you can use sudocrem on buns, but I'm not sure about pigs.

Vaseline is certain to make the problem worse not better. Hay etc will stick to the Vaseline.
Lubricate it with water and push gently, it should go back in without too much of a problem.
The condition is usually self correcting.

If you have any sort of lubrication you can rub some on there and definately place some water on it to try and take down the inflammation. If you have lubrication maybe place him on a towel and not bedding so that nothign gets stuck to it and makes it even more irritated. Definately take him to the vet asap
