IMG_9841.webp IMG_9837.webp hello,
I need some advice please.
I adopted an 18 months old boar yesterday. I was told he was neutered a few months ago but still has stitches.
But what worries me is his penis sticking out all the time. The skin feels hard.
Can anyone help?

I got him from pets at home adoption . They couldn't tell me when or where he had been neutered exactly and when I mentioned his willy sticking out, they said that he had excess skin removed but didn't affect him.

I had a piggy arrive here at TEAS with a similar issue, after a botched neuter. My main worry is the fact that you say the skin feels hard. It may be worth getting him vet checked. Does he seem okay in himself? Is he able to urinate okay? x

That certainly doesn't look right! When my two were neutered they didn't look like that. The stitches fell out themselves after a few weeks. Those stitches don't look a few months old to me. I would take him to your vet if I were you.

Please have that checked by a decent vet and reclaim the vet cost from the branch by presenting the vet bill together with your sales receipt. Poor boy! :(

He seems happy in himself, eating , drinking.
I haven't seen him urinate as i only got him yesterday .
They told me the stitches would dissolve by themselves.

I had an elderly boar whose muscles deteriorated quite badly so his penis used to hang out sometimes. Unlike this pig though he still had the skin to enable me to put it away for him.

The vet suggested a cream to use on it when it was hard or sore, and to keep him housed on very clean and very soft bedding.

Update: I took Sam to see Kim Maddock in Northampton .
She removed the remaining stitches .
She had a good look at him, she said that the prepuce that protects his penis wasn't there and could have been removed during a botched operation when he was neutered.
There's nothing we can do about it but keep area clean and she advised not to put anything on it as it would attract dirt.
I keep him on fleece in c&c cage that i keep vey clean.
He's a very happy pig.

Bless him! My Donald has been left with an outey after his neuter and I was going to say it looks very different to that. How awful that some vet removed "excess skin" that was actually there to protect him. Thank God he ended up in a good home

Thanks for the update! Glad that you know what is the matter and can make sure that you care for him accordingly. You will have to check his penis more often because a slightly increased risk of infection, but that should hopefully all that is needed.
