He is an estate agent ( one of the good ones!). One Of his tenants bought a pair of guinea pigs as a present for his wife. Trouble is they live in a flat and the landlord has a clause of no pets 🤦🏼

Anyway, he spoke to the landlord, told her that we had pigs and they were not messy and would not cause damage, but did empathise that what they had done was stupid. She has come back with loads of rules and one of them is that if she changes her mind then they will have one weeks notice to get rid of them!

He firmly told her that he would not allow her to put this clause in, that they were animals and were not to be treated like furniture. If she insists they cannot stay then they must be given time to rehome them sensibly. He was furious!

We will see what happens and he has told the tenants we can advise on rescue centres if the worse happens.

this is the husband that spent over 20 hours refurbishing our shed For them..so proud of him 😍

What a blessing he is. I hope the landlord changes some of her stipulations.

Our contract also has a no pet clause. I asked the landlord about bringing the (then) school guinea pigs home before I did it. If he had said no then that would have been the end. Luckily I think he trusted us and allowed us to have pets! They were supposed to live outdoors but I wasn’t quite organised so they lived indoors for a while. Again with his blessing.

I think it’s important if you’re living in someone’s house to understand why they may have the no pet clause.

Clearly a perfect match.
We celebrate our 29th wedding anniversary at the end of Feb. A good husband is worth their weight in gold.

Wow, that’s fantastic! They are rare aren’t they lol! It took me ages to find him and I feel very fortunate. Now if I could just get him to do the laundry.....🤔

100% agree with you and I wish more people would be open and collaborative like you. I strongly suspect this lady may not have reacted so badly if it had been before the event.

At least hubby will be looking out for the Guineas! He did help one of his customers once who had a long haired guinea which was all matted. he called me up then and there and we put her in touch with Gorgeous Guineas and a few months later when he went back, the guinea had gorgeous flowing locks and fleece bedding. he was over the moon!

My husband surprised me the other day. We were watching our local news when an article came on about a lady who ran a rescue and over the last year of the pandemic had taken in nearly 100 guinea pigs and was appealing for funds and potential adopters. Out of the blue my OH said "Blimey can you imagine how long it would take to sort out the hierarchy of 100 guinea pigs?" I thought he hadn't taken in anything to do with piggies. Clearly, I was wrong.

it’s lovely when they show interest and take notice of piggie related things isn’t it? Gonna get a lot of weird looks for this post but when my fiancé poo picks for me when i have bad days he’s always saying to them “I’m gonna steal your poo poos! Bruno I’m stealing all of your poo poos!” It gets the piggies so excited and I just melt. It’s absolutely adorable :)) :)) :))

I need your husband as my estate agent! We moved into our flat having asked our estate agent if piggies and a snake would be ok on multiple occasions only to be told the first time the landlord visited that they had a strict no pets policy and were not happy with us. I was mortified and in order to keep them we've had to sign all sorts of paperwork agreeing that we will get the whole house professionally cleaned and fumageted when we leave, the pigs won't get floor time hay and food has to be kept in a sealed box etc. It's ok now but we're not planning to leave until we're buying a house and it's just another expense I don't need.

@Sweet Potato That sounds like a breakdown in communication between your landlord and their agent. If you had asked and been told it’s ok, then that’s not your fault.

We are landlords and while my husband would prefer our tenants to not have pets, he isn’t completely opposed and I am entirely fine with it. All we ask is that the tenants are going to be sensible and do their best to protect our property. If they move in without pets and then decide they do want pets, that they ask us first. I’ve got pets and understand the joy and companionship they bring and wouldn’t want to turn down a tenant because they’ve got a reasonable number of family pets. Extra cleaning at end of tenancy and accepting responsibility for any damage caused by the animal is routine in our contracts with pet owning tenants.
What I’m not happy with is them not being honest with us. We had a couple once who asked if if they could get a rescue dog. Told us it was a small adult dog. We agreed (with the usual conditions). Our agent then carried out an inspection only to find it was actually puppy who was going to turn into a big dog! To give them their dues, they were doing a great job of keeping the house clean and looked after but the fact they told us one thing and then did another without running the change past us first was disappointing.

Your husband sounds a real treasure. My OH is lovely too, although the piggies are my pets he cares and sees them as part of our family. Until Ted died in December he was driving Ted a 600 mile round trip every month so Ted could get his conscious dental. I know not many people would do that, he’s a gem x
