We had an open day at our church today, for people to show their hobbies. My daughter and I took our 5 piggies, we set up a run and had posters with photos, names and ages on. We also let people have a cuddle!

We've never taken them out before so I'd no idea how they would react, but they did really well! There was music and noise and loads of children cuddling them and they took it all in their stride!

After 2 hours they started to hide and I was aware of some unhappy squeaks, so we packed up and went home! They have been quiet for the rest of the day!

What I wasn't prepared for was the assumption that we bred them! Because we have two older girls, a boy (neutered) and 2 baby girls, people assumed they were mum, dad and babies! I had some good conversations about rescue guinea pigs and general care etc.

A good morning all round!

What a lovely thing to do - lets hope you have made a few more people aware that guinea pigs are "NOT just for Xmas " they make ideal pets but need a lot of care and attention-

That really angers me when people assume we breed just because we have a few guinea pigs. It is great you were able to promote rescues. Hopefully anybody who wants guinea pigs will think of rescuing.

That was a lovely idea :). I'm glad you went out there and educated some people about piggies!
